I think I will upgrade my 6230 with the 4.28 firmware. Someone said
that this kills all the ringtones Nokia ships with the phone. Can
anyone confirm this, or its opposite? I like some of the ringtones
and would not want to lose them.
Alternatively, how can I back these up, given that Nokia
copy-protects them. OBEX transfers fail. I can't move them to the
MMC. Another instance of a customer being ****ed over by the
companies trying to make money?

Re: 6230 firmware upgrade and phone goodies
Backed up my "downloaded" (from pc and OTA) ringtones to the mmc card,
before taking handset for flash to 4.28.
Got the phone flashed to 4.28, and didn't lose the existing tones, that are
resident in RAM?
Couple of the changes you may note with 4.28, are:- Better (slight) camera
quality of images. Slightly different menu with "messages e-mail messages".
Added "next page" to the CENTRE button, as opposed to the left toggle switch
(when reading mail that you may have retrieved).
THINK there is a slight increase in the volume levels (although keypad tones
remain too quiet (as far as I am concerned).
TRANSPARENT enhancements include Tweaking of Bluetooth handling. Tweaking of
call handling.
Trust this may have been of use.
Oh, PS I also backed up my 6230 to my pc before the flash, but it didn't
seem to retain my personal ringtones, so it was lucky they were backed up to
MMC card. Names, telephone numbers were backed up and restored.
Good luck

How do you put existing tones into the RAM?

So you do not have the Nokia Ringtones outside of the phone?

I have a problem with java apps. If I copy games one at a time, using
the supplied software, then test the game, things are fine. But if I
just copy a bunch of games one at a time, but without testing each of
them, then when I go to play a game the phone reboots itself. It then
does this as soon as I try to access any java apps. The only way
around this is to connect using the supplied software again (i'm using
infrared) and delete the games I just added until it doesn't reboot.
Tedious. Any idea if this bug has been fixed since my v3.15 firmware?
Also, my previous phone was a t610 and I found it impossible to get a
firmware upgrade. SonyEriccson support gave me a few `authorized
dealers` who told me they don't actually support SE anymore, and I
wasn't prepared to visit a grumpy old man in Walthamstow who was the
only person on SE's list who did still do firmware upgrades. I got my
phone as an upgrade from tmobile at a tmobile store, but they don't
seem interested in doing anything other than accepting a broken phone
for replacement. Any ideas how I can get my firmware upgraded for
free, and preferably on the spot (rather than having to send the phone
away)?
