    Hi folks-

My 6820 has occasionally given me "SIM Card Registration Failed" errors
since I bought it a month and a half ago. It always before went away
    with a reboot.

Today I took it in to the ATT store and showed the folks there. They
suggested it was a flakey SIM card and gave me a new one, registering
    the new one first.

We swapped the new one into the phone and booted up. Got the same error
    about failed registration.

They said the phone itself was at fault, and made me call the warranty
replacement number. It's costing me $14.99 to get a replacement shipped
to me; should be here tomorrow or next day latest.

I guess I'm worried because when the new phone gets here, I'm worried
that I will put in the SIM card and get the same error; another way to
say this is that I'm afraid they screwed something up when registering
    the new SIM card.

An interesting note is that I can save contact names to the new SIM
card, so I know that it is communicating with the phone. I didn't try
this with the old SIM card.

My running theory has been an intermittent fault between the phone and
original SIM card, and now I'm worried that the replacement SIM card is
    wonky.

Any thoughts here? How common is this error? Anybody have any similar
    experiences?

    Marc

I've encountered same stuff with 6610 & 7600 here in Finland with TeliaSonera SIM. Only thing that
cured the phone was new software(s). There was nothing wrong with SIM or hardware, just flashed the
phone with authorized repair shop and away with the problems!

Its probably the phone...maybe bad software. everytime you turn the phone
on it has to register to the network so it maybe cant find the network,
which would 95 percent of the time be a sim problem, but can be a phone
problem if it cant find the network. I wouldnt worry though. Working at
cingular, i know it is practically impossible to botch sim card
registration. All you do is scan the sim and the system does the rest, no
user error possible, so att couldnt of really messed up registering your sim
    card.

Rick- yeah, I'm bummed but consider it a bump in the road. I know a
couple others who have the 6820 and have no problems so I'm guessing I
got a dud. Anxiously awaiting the delivery truck with my new phone, but
they told me it would be here today or tomorrow, so I might have another
    day to wait.

I'll post a note letting the group know how it goes with the new phone.

Do you know how to look up the software version? I want to compare old
and new phone software versions. I thought I had posted a topic on this
here, but it hasn't shown up on my server yet.

And, the new phone has arrived. Guess what? I put in the SIM card and
got the same SIM Card Registration Failed error. According to the
    documentation there should

I'm on the line with ATT now. Been hanging on for about 10 minutes while
they try to sort it out.
