Hi all,
Friend of mine has a N8310. Every now and then the display suddenly goes off
and text "insert sim card" appears. Switching it off and on again solves the
problem for a little while (most of the times). Really annoying though as no
calls can be received or made. No obvious reasons as water damage or other
accidents. I had the same years ago with my 8210.

Could be dirty SIM contacts, try removing it and cleaning them thoroughly,
make sure the SIM is making good contact, I don't know the 8310 but some
phones use a clip to hold the SIM in place, check this is in good
condition.

I had a very similar problem with a 5130, it turned to be an unbolted screw
inside (I heard it knocking when shaking the phone). Dismantled everything,
secured screw, no problem anymore.
Now it seems I have a problem with the tuner &/or antenna, but it doesn't
matter.

Take out the SIM card and cut and stick a post-it note on the back of it.
The extra width is enough to push the SIM card down onto the contacts that
little bit harder, ensuring a better contact with the SIM connections in the
phone.
Mike.
