Storage: Nokia 6230

Hi there,
just got my 6230 and was wondering about this: Where does my Nokia store
details of my contacts when I choose to use phone memory? Does it store it
on the phone or the Memory Card that ships with it?

My second question: is it better to choose to use the phone memory or phone
& sim?

Your contacts would be stored in the phone and not the MMC card.

The advantage of storing your contacts in your phone is that you can
have multiple numbers and other details for each contact.

For example:
Fred Nerd
Mobile xxxxxxxxxx
Home xxxxxxxxxx
Office xxxxxxxxxx
email [email protected]
Webpage http://www.frednerd.com/
Address 7 Fred St., Nerdsville.

Where as on the SIM card you would have to have separate entries for
each phone number: Fred Mobile, Fred Home, Fred Office and there is no
capability of storing other details on the SIM card like email, Webpage,
Address etc.

The advantage of having the numbers in the SIM are of course you can
change to other phones.

The choice is up to you, do you want the flexibility to move your SIM
card to other phones with all your phone book numbers or would you
prefer to have the additional contact information available in the phone?

The other option of course is have some info on the phone and other info
on the SIM card, in this situation you would choose SIM & Phone memory.

Maybe the SAINT is right, but it is not autonmatically that the numbers are
stored inside the phone. I also got a brandnew 6230 and after placing the
simcard out of my old phone, I had all the numbers available on the 6230!!!!
In the past you could chose sometimes where to store the numbers, in the
phone or on the card. I think they are stored on the card.

On my 6230 I have duplicated the numbers from sim to phone, the chnaged
the setting on the phone to just show those on the phone, I learnt the
hard way last time a phone died on me it was good to have a copy on the
sim too!!

It stores your contacts on the phone memory only. You can use MMC card for
multimedia files only. Normally, SIM card allows to store only one phone
number per contact and no other information (such as e-mails and/or postal
address). Phone Memory allows to store much more additional information, but
you are loosing all info from the phone's memory after reflashing.

The best software for backing phonebook information up your PC is Oxygen

your Nokia 6230 also locally on your PC and transfer phonebook information
from phone memory to the SIM card.

I think you will find the default setting *Phone and SIM*, so of course
when you put the SIM in you will see all your numbers. But if you go
into the settings and change it to *Phone only* you will then no longer
see any entries from SIM card.

If you want to keep all your numbers on the SIM card that is fine, but
remember you can do so much more with the Nokia's phone memory. The
choice is yours.

that's the point - The OPM software (which I bought a registered copy
of incidently) has absolutely nothing to do with the OPs original
question which was about handset functionality.
