I plan to give a new Nokia 6230 phone to my friend working Uganda. It is a
UK T-mobile phone so will need unlocking which should not be a problem. He
works on a farm in the middle of a field with a local contract mobile phone
service as his only phone. He uses Internet and email from a wooden hut
with tin roof in a field powered by a car battery and needs to replace his
rather old phone.

To improve reception I want to buy an external antenna kit to mount on his
roof or window. They often have to go outside for best phone reception.
The 6230 does not seem to have an antenna socket so I assume a Nokia AXF-15S
Antenna Coupler is suitable. What antenna should this be connected to - is
a Skymasts DBS1 Cellular Windscreen Antenna compatible or are there better
ones. Are all the plugs on these devices compatible with each other.

I see that some sort of holder is needed to keep the AXF-15S coupler in the
right position. We do not need a full car kit as it is to be used in doors
and a hands free speaker would be inconvenient for daily voice use. Can
anyone recommend some pieces of kit that could be configured to do the job.
An external headset could overcome problems with a hands free speaker if
necessary.

He has recently been given a Nokia 6110 for voice calls that has an antenna
socket. What plug and antenna is available for this phone as well to
improve reception. Can a 6110 be used with Nokia PC Suite to do emails via
a laptop PC or is it too old for this job.

Any comments appreciated.

Thanks

Graham Brooker
