We've tested it.
The problem is that there is no third party solution that officially
supports the 6680 yet, and the phone itself is a complete pain to resurrect
if anything goes wrong.
I'd be inclined to give it a few weeks and see if Twister, JAF or similar
bring an update out that supports the 6680 (officially rather than beta).

Re: Anyone on Orange flashed a 6680 yet?
But if I took it to an authorised nokia dealer and talked them into
doing it, there should be any problems though right?

There shouldn't be, but you do face a couple of hurdles.
1. Most service centres will refuse to do it outright as it would breach
their contract with Nokia.
2. If you find one willing to do it, they may not be able to do it as Nokia
are introducing software and hardware that automatically chooses the correct
MCU, PPM and CNT packs for the handset without any user intervention.

I mean that the equipment they use (that's provided by Nokia) will not allow
them to flash uncustomised firmware onto the phone.

Re: Anyone on Orange flashed a 6680 yet?
Thanks - However what if I had bought the £400 6680 independant of a
network, and for some reason needed it flashed? Wouldn't that be a
legit reason for uncustomised firmware?

If you'd bought a standard phone, they would install standard firmware. The
flashing equipment used can read from the phone which firmware should be
installed and choose the correct files accordingly.

I thought as much.
Don't get too disheartened though. Many of the box manufacturers are
currently testing 6680 flashing, so it shouldn't be too long until we (and
others) will be able to decustomise it for you.

Well........ We can do it now, but the software isn't ready for release yet
(I think you know the reasons why Brian ;-)). Until flashing them is a bit
more stable, it's not something we'd particularly want to take on.

Pretty much.

That's not what worries me. It's the direction that JAF seems to be
travelling in that could end up causing problems for people.

sounds promising definitley. Does that mean that Nokia won't release
the official firmware of what? feel free to email me if you would
prefer.
