    Hello,

When I renew my contract for a year, I could get a 6230i when I
went to the shop of my provider (KPN in The Netherlands) which,
would cost me then 9 euro. All other shops where I asked the same,
this same deal would cost much more, ranging from 109 to 182 euro!

When I mentioned the 9 euro, some suggested the 6230i from my
provider might be locked. I didn't know KPN ever did that with
postpaid contracts, but if they do, can I unlock a 6230i the
same way as a 6230? Is it just a normal ASIC 6 phone in this
    respect?

    Nokia 6230i

    asic/uem/type 6
    gen 32821 (asic 6)

some of these need a sim card from ANOTHER Network (not the one it is locked to ) in the phone when you enter the code to unlock them. If the phone just sits there when you enter the code and does nothing then put a sim card in

Is 32821 the box serial number?

No problem, I have about 12 SIMs from 5 different networks here.

I just got the phone, it turned out to be unlocked already so no steps
    were necessary.
