This Nokia thing does far more than what I am willing to pay for or need.
As a result, I am buried deep in the menu and cannot get out.

Maybe they need to make a minimalist menu so one can avoid going so deep
that it takes a 200 page manual to figure it out.

    Arggghhhh!

In a way, I agree. They should make phones that have only voicemail
and say, an addressbook that you can program numbers into the phone.
My phone has so much crap on it, its unreal....frigging wallpaper,
screensavers, games, apps, voice dialing etc etc etc.. ...And all I
use it for is to make calls and receive voicmail, nothing else. I
could care less about wallpaper and playing games, etc.
My 8 or 9 year old Ericsson was pretty much a minimalist phone.. Easy
to use, didn't even need the instruction manual..

Every Nokia I've seen can be returned to the "home page", exiting
all menus, by pressing the red "hang up" button used to end a call.

Not so many years ago a common-or-garden VCR was far too 'complicated' for
    the average owner to use....
At the same time just about any youngster could easily take control of such
a device and program it - no probs.

Time moves on but old fogeys remain technically inept!

Mine has that in the form of a "go to" menu.

I understand your point, but lets bypass the 'old fogeys/technically
inept' thing. Thats a ridicuIous statement. I write MS software for a
living and can easily program in Unix using a variety of different
languages. My new 750i is loaded to the max, because thats what I
want. I *want* advanced technology in my vehicle. If someone wants
something cheaper, then they can buy a Hyundai or KIA or whatever and
pay a heck of a lot less in doing so. As for my VCR, I want it basic.
If it has 500 different ways to play a tape, I don't want it because
its just not important to me. And good for the kid who can program his
    VCR, more power to them.
I suppose my point is that there is a difference in want and need. You
want a cell that does 500 things, I want a cell that does three
things. You want a car that gets you there and back, I want a car that
does a million things. The difference is, is that you CAN buy a
cheaper car with much less features, while I CAN'T buy a cell with
less features and pay less for it, not that I know of anyway.
    Best,
    Chris

    B~

    Instructions for your phone use.

    1) Switch on
    2) If phone makes a noise, typically referred to as "ringing", although
this may be a variety of tones, press the GREEN button, and communicate with
    the caller.
    3) When the conversation has finished, or at any other point you feel
fit, press the RED button. This will terminate the call.

1b) If you wish to communicate with someone, press the buttons on the
front of your phone, in a sequence that is EXACTLY the same as the person
you wish to contacts telephone number.
2b) After having complete the above, press the GREEN button
3b) Talk to the person/machine/service you have called
4b) REFER TO item "3" above.

    ;-)
