I have a Nokia 3360 with Cingular Wireless. Just depleted the battery
and recharged it. When I get the first call after recharging, phone says
"low battery". After a bit, battery seems to be charged again. What's
going on? Is this the "memory effect" happening on the battery?
How should I fix it - deplete the battery a couple of more times and
    then recharge?

You could try that, but it may be time for a new battery. When they
get old, the internal resistance goes up, causing that sort of problem.
It's also more likely to occur in poor signal conditions, since that
requires the battery to supply more current.
