Purchased a Nokia stereo headset adopter which has 3 or 4 teeth missing
to the left of center. Attaching a headset to it, I can hear the
keyboard, so know it operates there. But when I go to FM radio, receive
the window, "Plug in headset." It does play the radio on a 7230, so it
either doesn't work with the 6260 with the pins missing, or the radio is
not operating. Any clues would be appreciated.

The supplied 6260 headset is also the aerial for the FM radio.

The 'phone checks for its existance when you try to use the radio
(because it won't work without its aerial) and it is not detecting
your new headset as the genuine article (with aerial) for the 6260.

I modified the stereo headset that came with my 6230i, so that i can use my
koss sparkplug headset with the phone.
The sound is great-still have mic and skip button( Nokia stereo headset
adapter has not),and the radio recives better than with the original
    headset.
It was not hard to do,following this guide..

Error, I should have said it does operate on the 6230 (not 7230).

I purchased the phone on eBay and it did not include the original headset
When I tried someone else's Nokia headset that had all of the pins it
worked, but I could not keep the things in my ears!

Then a couple of months later, purchased the two adapters which are
represented to include the antenna and I presume they in fact do, since
they both operate with a 6230. Therefore, I must conclude that the
failure is relative to the 3 missing pins, whatever they may do for the
6260 and be unnecessary for the 6230!

One of the adopters is a Nokia branded AD15 (or perhaps a copy), and I
tried plugging it into a few headsets, then turning on the radio and
experienced the "Plug in headset" warning. So as I said, it must be
relative to the 3 missing pins, but where can an adopter be found that
    has all of the pins??

Apparently Nokia does not manufacture them? And cannot get any
information out of NokiaUSA because the 6260 is not sold here. Nokia UK
say they only take care of people living in the UK, Nokia HKG does not
sell them, and cannot find an English language website for Nokia's home
    office.

I'm certain your methods would help if I could find an adopter with all
of the pins (see my prior response). Or I guess what you are saying is
that I could purchase 6230i stereo headset and modify it. But is it also
missing the 3 pins (hence 3 wires)?

Yes it is missing the pins(same as AD15 adapter), but didn`t your phone come
with some kind of stereo handsfree that works with the radio?
Then u could try modify that one..?

No, my phone purchased on eBay did not have a headset.
