Battery accidentally detached (happened a lot before and no trouble)
only this time when restarted, it has forgotten everything (profiles,
ringtones, calender notes, voicetags, time & date). Not a problem. The
trouble is most of phonebook entries are gone (the ones on the phone's
memory, sim contacts ok). Phone correctly reports 26% in use (128
names) but can only display a handful. Trying to access NAMES - CALLER
GROUPS does nothing & simply exits to main menu. Tried switching back &
forth between sim & phone memory, no good. Trying to grab contacts
using PC Suite or "gammu" halts mid way & gives an error. My guess is
that the memory "filesystem" has been corrupted.

I have lots of very important contacts there. Is there anyway I can
recover my phonebook? Is it possible to download an image of the
memory (at least the phonebook part)?

I'm desperate! Any help deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It could be that the backup battery on the main board has failed and
somehow corrupted the phone's memory. Can you use it to make/receive calls
    ok..?

Only thing I can suggest is take it to a Nokia Service Centre, but I doubt
any phonebook entries can be retrieved. I could be wrong though.
