Official news from Nokia website that the N73 has started shipping -
unfortunately they don't say where to! :-(
Anybody "in the know" got an idea when we're likely to see one in the UK,
especially on Orange?!
Cheers,
Andy

Internally it's in review for Orange, so it will be out. I think the
provisional date is sometime in August.

Chris, don't forget that the N91 was also in review for some time.

Well, I can always be optimistic, despite the N91 debacle
A lot of the other new launches have gone well recently (6233, K800,
E900), so here's hoping.

Re: Ready, Set, Snap - Nokia N73 starts shipping!
Appreciate the feedback, Chaps. Just wondering what happens "in review". Is
this where Orange do their branding of the phone and make sure all the
functions work? What went wrong with the N91?
When it does eventually become available, how likely am I to get hold of one
via an upgrade? Don't they usually get allocated to new customers?! <sigh>
Thanks again - I'll keep waiting patiently with my 22 month old 6230! ;-)
Cheers,
Andy

Some say that Orange wanted to install their crappy music player in place
of the Nokia one. Nokia said no. Orange said **** off.

Not quite. We get a sample of units from the manufacturer which get used
heavily by a testing team for a period of time, after that period of
time the team meet to review and discuss issues. If there are issues
they report back to the manufacturer for fix, then the cycle repeats
until issues are eradicated or deemed minor enough not to delay the
launch any further.

Not normally. Go to an Orange Shop.

Others say that a 75% failure rate from other retailers may have
influenced the decision!

Re: Ready, Set, Snap - Nokia N73 starts shipping!
Hmmmm the N73 now showing as "Out of Stock".....on the Orange website
Rang Customer Services - it is not available yet - it is going to be
1-2 weeks...at least.
I have also noticed that Orange have put "Current offers end 30th
September" under the listing of the price plans.
I reckon orange are waiting to release this phone until they revamp
their price plans...which are not as 'unlimited' as they currently are.

Actually the price plans are the same next month as they are now, and
the N73 has yet to make it into the warehouse from Nokia, which is why
it hasn't arrived in stores yet.
Sometimes the simplest explanation is the real one!

Jon,
>From reading your other posts in this thread, you seem like you're "in
the know"... I spoke to Marie in Upgrades on 150 this evening, and she
told me that they've been having a lot of problems with the N series
phones, and they've been discontinued fairly quickly due to lots of
returns.
She gave me the impression they were considering not launching the N73,
and suggested I go for a K800i instead - was she just trying to get a
sale or is there any truth in this?
Should I wait another couple of weeks, or just go for the K800i?
Thanks!

There could well be. The N91 was dropped 6 days prior to launch due to
75% failure rate experienced by other networks.
Nokia simply cannot get a stable handset at launch.
