hi i have a nokia 6680 and PC running nokia PC suite v: 6.512 on windows XP
..
and today [ here in the UK ] is the end of brittish summer time - so the
clocks go back
and my PC has adjusted it sclock , as has my PDA - but my phone hasnt - and
even after syrncronising it via USB cable - the clock is still out of sync ?
no i have noticed that clocks on my various gadgets do drift - but the PC
and PDA do maintain synch
i run atomtime on my PC at least once a week to keep my clock at the right
time -
i am actually impressed with the nokia clock accuracy - it has not been set
since i got it - and set it by hand to the nerest second and it is now only
70 seconds adrift - quite good for 4 months .
but still i would like it to automatically ysynch
i have gone through all menus on pc suite
any ideas ? what have i missed ?

The phone should get the time from the network. Unfortunately not all
networks support this feature. And you have to switch automatic time setting
on from your phone.

Apparently Orange here in the UK don't support this feature as my 6680
has never auto-updated the time since I got it. Auto-update is switched
on, BTW.

It seems the same here, in Itlay, with Vodafone. My 6600 never
switched for summer hour. I change it manually.
And I do the same when I move, i.e., in UK or other countries with
different time zone.
Auto-updated is on, and the phone is always with the "exact" time, so
I wonder if the automatic update sync only "GMT" time, but there are
no support for summer and zones following.

Check out Oxygen Phone Manager, I requested this exact feature and it
was implemented by them!

This current time is not broadcast from the network. You can get it at
switch on (then you need to power off the phone first), you may get it at a
(periodic) location update, some networks provide it at a GPRS attach. Could
be that your network does support the feature but you did not have relevant
activity at the phone to get the time info.

Ok. My question is: the network broadcast the time zone, too? I think
no, because if I want my phone remain in my time zone when I'm
abroad...
If the network broadcast only GMT time, I have to move for summer time
and time zone manually.
Can you tell me if when you have time sync on, your phone follows the
summer time and/or time zone?

The network does not broadcast the time info, it is delivered by a
point-to-point signalling (along with certain signalling the mobile would do
irrespectively of the interest to retrieve time info).
This network time info includes basically GMT info, time zone info and
summer time info. If you set the phone to use it, you would have the phone
always on local time, including summer time when applicable.
If you want the phone to remain on your local time zone, you normally would
need to disable the network time feature (unless the phone has some specific
support for your case like allowing you to set a delta to the local time,
but then you would anyway need to set the time manually, partly).

Thanks a lot. It means that my time sync doesn't work, and my phone
have a clock extra exact: usually the phone and the PC (sync with
atomic sync) play alarms togheter!

Dear Andrew,
recently I had some tests about sync via PCSuite, using a 6600.
When you sync agenda the phone syncs time, too. This is why my phone
and my PC are alwaiys synchronized...
I don't now if all other models sync time and date, but...
Pietro
PS: my test was: I changed the time of the pc, and after this I
connect 6600 via bluetooth. It works, when I sync agenda, time and
date are synchronized. too.
