Number instead of name on sms's

My N82 has developed a strange problem. Some texts received, and some sent
have the number instead of the name. It's not all the time. Also when it
flashes up 'Delivered' it also sometimes says number instead of name.
Nothing has been changed on my phone, and there doesn't seem to be any
pattern. There's no duplicate numbers in my phone book as I know this causes
this sort of problem. One thing I did do yesterday was delete someone that
kept coming up as number instead of name, then re entered them into my phone
book, and since then, their name has come up every time, but like I said,
it's a random problem, and not linked to just one number.
Making and receiving calls seems fine, so I'm wondering if it's because I
have so many sms in my inbox - Nearly 2000! I'm just coping them across to
Life Blog, and will then delete all my sms and see if it sorts it!
Either that, or I'm thinking there's a bug or file corruption somewhere in
my contacts?

Any ideas? Firmware is the latest, and apart from this, my N82 is bug free,
never crashes. And is one of the most stable phones I've ever owned!

What format are the numbers stored in the phone in? 07xxx or +447xxx?

Some Nokia phones accept blanks in phone numbers in the phone book, but
not all applications recognise the phone numbers when they contain
blanks. On my E65, SMS delivery receipts for numbers stored with
blanks, are displayed with the number to which I sent, not the name as
stored in the phone book.
