Please help me. I am trying to connect my phone (Nokia 8890) to my
laptop via IR and get Internet access. I already have Data plan added
to my cell phone plan, but nobody can tell me how to configure the
connection. I have Windows XP. Do I ABSOLUTELLY HAVE to buy Portage
package? I dont need the cable and I understand some data cable is
included in Portage. If somebody can send me their modem strings
and/or explain how to get tis thing going, that would be greatly
    appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

    Bryan

    Bryan,

you need (possibly, I can't remember with XP) the driver for the phone which
you can get from Nokia's website. Switch your IR on, place next to the
lappy, show it the drivers and then just set up a normal Dial-Up Networking
    connection using the new modem.

I have an 8850 and a Toshiba Sat Pro 6000 and it works fine!

Dan, I have all that set up. PC Suite manages the phone, modem shows
up on the list of devices... but now how to configure it for the
    internet access?

    Thanks,

    Bryan,

Start/Settings/Network Connections/New Connection Wizard. Then follow the
    on-screen doo-dah's!

Re: Nokia 8890 and Portage (Rogers AT&T)

Dan I appreciate the help, but this is not getting us anywhere...

There is a string that is Portage unique. Rogers AT&T is my cell phone
provider and wireless Internet provider. At the same time. The only
problem is--I am too cheap to buy Portage kit ($60) since I dont need
the cable that comes with it--I will be using (hopefully) IR to
connect phone (modem) to my laptop.

Now that I hope I clerified, can you help? There is a string that
looks like: at+cretxxx,,"internet.com" and the dialup number is *99#
    or so...

    Any help? Anybody?

    Thanks,

P.S. Dan, I really appreciate the effort.

    Bryan
