Hi,
I am thinking of purchasing a 6800 but I have got a few questions...
Can you text with the phone in its normal position using the keypad or
does it need to be flipped open?
What is the latest firmware, any known bugs?
nokia.com mention using the email client via gprs, will it also work
with standard dial-up?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Re: 6800 - Good or Bad?
Hi! I've had a 6800 for a few weeks now, so my answers below......
Other comments - Very easy to set up for both Outlook Synch and
E-mail. The phone comes with an easy setup sheet, but I needed some
info from my ISP who sent me another setup sheet for their bit. It was
delivered 10am Sat, and was Synching by end of Sat and e-mailing by
end of Sun!
Cheers,

Yes. Closed you can have predictive text turned on or off. Open its
all down to your typing.

Yes. I use GSM dial-up to both send and receive (mostly send). For
Receive you only get the whole message (no header only option) and it
doesn't delete from ISP so you get it again next time unless you
delete it some other way.
(This maybe because of the way I use it, but haven't been able to do
it different so far!)

Thanks for the answers, I think I'll be getting one.
To find your firmware version type *#0000#
Can you confirm if the option to assign a ring tone to a contact in a
caller group actually works as on the early versions of the 6610/7210
had bugs and part of this didn't work.

Re: 6800 - Good or Bad?
its a great phone, wouldnt have been better with an integrated camera
(instead of the camera attachment) but the flip hinge looks like it
would break easily... but i like the design.

There are some limitations:
- there seems to be a 500 address limit in the phone book - mine was just
over that so I had to move some less used ones to another folder on my PC. I
was not aware of this limit when I bought the phone, but it does seem to be
common to Nokia phones with PC Suite as I later found out on the Nokia
website.
- Date from Outlook 2002 takes the person name ("Full Name"). Many of my
business addresses were based on Company Name, with the Full Name field
blank. When copied to the Nokia the name is blank, so I ended up with about
200 numbers with no name on the phone. I am now slowly changing all those
entries on Outlook. It took me a while to realise what was causing the
unnamed entries. This is not a problem with replication to an IPAQ for
example.
- my Notes data on the phone is full already from data on the PC. It does
not seem to allow many entries, but I cannot find out how many yet. I am
also archiving Notes on my Outlook until I can find out what space is
available. I cannot find any mention of a limit in the instructions or
specifications.
- Though my Notes data is full, and my address data is nearly full, my
total free memory is over 3MB. This memory is supposed to be shared, but
obviously only a part of it is available for Outlook anddress and organiser
data. I have no idea why there is this limitation and I can't get a reply
yet from Nokia about it. It is really frustrating as I mainly wanted the
phone for its links to Outlook etc and I am unlikely to fill that huge
unused 3MB with applications and WAP stuff.
Does anyone know of any place on Nokia sites or newsgroups where I can get
advice from Nokia staff? So far a message to their web site support area has
been ignored.
But apart from this it seems to be a great phone.

Can someone please explain how you use dial-up (non GPRS) to access an ISP?
I cannot find it , e.g. where to enter the ISP dial-up number.
(Sorry if this has been answered already, but my current ISP's newsgroup
server seems to be losing perhaps half the posted messages. So a reply c.c.
to my email would be very kind!)

Re: 6800 - Good or Bad?
How do you like the "true" POP email? Is it easier and better the
previous Nokia phones?
How many messages get downloaded at once? Currently through Cingular's
MyWireless Window I can only get 5 at a time.

David

To find your firmware version type *#0000#
Can you confirm if the option to assign a ring tone to a contact in a
caller group actually works as on the early versions of the 6610/7210
had bugs and part of this didn't work.
