I heared a rumor that it is possible to use the software of the Nokia
6510 on the 6210.
Is it really possible and what advantages do I have then?
The 6210 is fine for me but what I miss is:
- a voice recorder
- other sms tones
Nokia has xxx ringtones but only one usable SMS-tone and everyone uses
this one... :-(

Yes, it is definitely possible, but I don't know what the advantages are.

Does it work with the M-Bus cable? And where can I get the software?

No you can't do the firmware update with a standard data cable. At a minimal
level, you need a flasher cable and Rolis. The proper equipment costs in
excess of £200. Your best bet is to pay a Nokia Service Centre £15 or so to
do it for you, although I'm not sure if they will install the 6510 firmware
on a 6210.

No, it is totally impossible. 6210 is DCT3, 6510 is DCT4. You can however
convert the 6210 into a 6250.

See above, it won't work!

Give it a rest! You can't convert a 6210 into a 6510, end of story. The
equipment to flash DCT3 phones doesn't cost anywhere near £200, flasher
cables are about £15 and a Dejan box will set you back about £20. A Nokia
SC will NOT flash 6510 firmware into a 6210, because IT CAN'T BE DONE! You
can use 6510 firmware in an 8310 and vice versa though.

Sorry, I was thinking of a 6250, not a 6510! You are correct, it can't be
done, but there's no need to be so aggressive about it. So I made a mistake,
big deal!
The equipment I was thinking of is for DCT4 phones, forgetting a 6210 is
DCT3.
Give me a break!

Ah ok, then it was the 6250 I ment. So how is that possible? I have the
M-Bus cable and AFAIK there is some software which can up/download the
Nokia-Software with this. So is that possible and what is the advantage?

Even though you didn't say it, I knew you meant it :-)
I will say no more about software update as it is not my specialist area. I
just always believed it is possible with a flasher cable and Rolis but not
with a standard data cable. Or, to do it properly, the equipment is around
£200, but perhaps this only applied to DCT4 phones.

At http://www.gsmschwantz.com I found some hints. Seems it is possible
with the M-Bus Cable. Let's see...
But I don't know if this is any advantage - the 6250 also seems to have
the same SMS tones.

You can't flash a phone over M-Bus. You'll need flasher cables or a Dejan
box, and you'll need to flash the MCU, PPM and Eeprom. Also, there is a
very good chance that if you successfully convert your 6210 into a 6250 that
it's GSM1800 performance will be lousy. In short, don't bother. If you
don't know what you're doing with it, you stand a good chance of having to
pay out to get it fixed, and if you flash the Eeprom, you'll probably be
contravening any relevent laws in your jurisdiction relating to IMEI
changing.

If it can be done with an MBus cable, then why does the site also say
you need a flasher cable?

Is says "MBus cableS" and "Flasher cableS" So why would you need several
cables of the same type?
=46or me this looks like he wanted to say that this works with Flaher
and/or MBus cables.
And when I used my MBus cable I think the software also worked for
flashing the phone but I didn't try it.

Ok, thank you for the hints. I think I don't do it. The only things
missing on the 6210 is the Voice Recorder and other SMS-tones, but I
think the 6250 won't have that either.
