    Hi
    Ive downloaded locksmiths DCT4 unlocking software and now have the codes to
    unlock my 8310 , but can`t input the code into the phone. When I turn it on
    it says to enter the code, but it will only let me enter numbers yet the
    code starts #pw etc. How do I enter the code, is it just the numbers or does
    the #pw mean something else.....sorry to be thick !

    #pw+generated number+lock no#
    ie:
    #pw+1234etc+1# - is LOCK 1
    # for the # symbol
    * for the p, w etc...
    Usually 8310 is unlocked via Lock 1 or 7
    It is usually a version 2 dongle.

    First remove the Sim.
    to get p, w, and +, are all mutilpresses of the star key

    Start with code 1, then if needed 7th, and 5th

    Hi Steve,

    It's been bugging me for a while, but why is the (unofficial) unlocking
    process so hit and miss? What exactly has the software done to come up
    with seven different codes anyway (or is it more, I can't remember)? and
    where does the suggested trial order come from?

    Don't get me wrong...I know it works (well, sort of) but I just don't
    know *why* it works.

    cheers,
    Laurence.

    ?? There aren't 7 different codes, there's one correct code for each of the
    7 possible levels of locks, but only the 1st and 7th level ever get used.
    The 5th is a master code but doesn't always work.

    Those 7 levels of codes generated are the same ones that the networks sell you

    Well...that's just pedantry, isn't it Steve? ;o)

    Aaah! It all makes sense now.

    Actually, the only time I've ever asked a network for an unlock code
    (Virgin) they only ever gave me a single code - I suppose they had a
    record of which level had been used on that phone.

    Next ob question...what are/were the other levels supposed to be for then?

    UnlockSMITH's DCT4 Calculator states:

    1=MCC+MNC
    2=GD1
    3=GD2
    4=IMSI
    5=MCC+MNC+GD1
    6=MCC+MNC+GD1+GD2
    7=All Locks (Universal - multilock)

    The lock status depends on the originating network, not the model.

    Also, there are only 4 locks. Codes 1, 2, 3, and 4 do locks 1, 2, 3 and 4
    respectively. Code 5 does locks 1 and 2 simultaneously, code 6 does 1, 2,
    and 3, and code 7 does all 4 locks in one go.

    For UK phones, Orange close locks 1 and 2 so use code 5, T-Mobile only use
    lock 1, O2 only use lock 1 and Vodafone Live! uses lock 1 and 2 so use code
    5.

    Indeed, very useful information, thanks. I was holding off trying to
    unlock my Nokia 6310i until I knew which code to use..! I want to put an
    American PAYG SIM in when I next go there, so now it's all ready :-)

    Re: Unlocking Nokia 8310, have codes but can`t get it working

    I find 8310 usually unlocks fine on 7
    Some other models like 7650 prefer lock 1 and I find that then 7 won't
    always work...
    It's a bit awkward, as long as codes are right you can try 1, 7 first
    usually. 5 is a lower version of 7 IMHO.
    7 does every lock - whereas 5 does almost every lock.
    Even I don't know 100% always what to use, but 1, then 7 seems to work most
    of the time.
    - Just make sure you have the right SIM card code
    - right IMEI entered
    - right dongle type (usually 2).
    If nothing works on 1, 2 - STOP - seek advice.

    Thanks for this info, that is clearer...
    Any joy with Virgin ones though?
