Can this happen? I have a fax machine I want to be able to use, but I
want to get rid of my landline and go with strictly a cell phone. I
not the Nokia 6340i is equipt with a fax modem, but how does it work?
Can I connect the phone to my fax machine to send and receive faxes?

I also have seen this unit at the stores where you can plug it into a
phone jack and set your cell phone in it. They advertise "Never miss
another call". What is the purpose of this unit? Will it allow me to
connect my landline devised up to run off my cell phone?

That most likely is a "Cellsocket" <http://cellsocket.com> but IIRC it
does not support the 6340i and only supports the 6310i or the 6360.
It will not work with the 6370 or 6385 either (CDMA.)

No, you would type a message as if you were going to send an SMS, then send
    it to a fax number.

    <snip>
AFAIK a fax modem (as in the old POTS modems) allow a PC to send a file to a
fax machine, or receive a fax from a fax machine and save it in a file.
i.e. the modem in your phone can talk to the modem in a fax machine.
However the fax machine needs its modem to be connected to a phone line.
Again AFAIK it does this via the telephone socket so you will need a
    landline for the fax machine.

The fax modem is intended for you to replace a 'real' fax machine with a PC
and modem, not to connect your local fax machine to other fax machines
    without using a landline.
