Okay, I found out awhile back that even though Nokia says the DLR-3P can be
used to connect your computer to the 6360 to use as a modem, AT&T's system
won't let it work. At least I can use it to backup the phone's memory.
Awhile back there was (now discontinued) a cable called the NOK-6 that was
designed to work with certain 3Com cellular-capable modems and some Nokia
phones. It was before the 6360 was on the market, but I've read on some web
pages the NOK-6 was compatible with 5100 and 6100 series, which the 6360 is
similar to (they share the same car kit and other accessories).
My bottom line question is, if I found a NOK-6 cable, will it work with a
6360, even at slow connect speeds, on AT&T's system? I already have a
compatible 3Com laptop modem. Some have said that to use the 6360 online
with a computer that you'd have to be able to force the 6360 into analog
mode, and I don't know if that's possible.

Correct.

Probably not. IIRC, there was some "support" built into the 51xx 61xx
series for analog data transmission that probaby is not built into the 6360.
The 5120 and 6120s could be forced into analog mode by the user to work with
the cable. The 5160 and 616x could be forced into analog mode by the cable,
allowing them to work with analog modems. I doubt that "force into analog"
support exists in the 6360, but I could be wrong. Nokia's website has a
"data" page which, while explaining about the 3COM setup, hasn't been
updated to include the 6360 as compatible or not. Their tech support MIGHT
be able to tell you, but with Nokia, they tend to tell you something's
impossible, even if it isn't, if it gets you off the phone!

It's not, at least not by you or I. If the NOK-6 can, it would
theoretically work. I have my doubts, however. AFAIK, some of the more
esoteric 51xx compatible accessories, like Cellsockets, reportedly don't
work with the 6360, so I'm afraid other than simple stuff like headsets,
handsfrees, and chargers, the phones aren't 100% "accessory compatible"
How bad do you need this to happen? The NOK-6 cables still run in the $50+
range (making it more than I'd want to pay unless I was darn sure it would
work!), and analog cellular data speeds max out around 7.2k (that's 7200
baud! I have an analog phone with data kit I used to use with a credit card
machine at fairs. 7200 was a GOOD connection. Often I'd be lucky to hit
4800.)
T-Mo is offering cheap unlimited data plans if data-on-the-run is what
you're after. $29.99/month unlimited, or $19.99 with any voice plan $29.99
and up.
If you're in a Cingular TDMA area, you could use the 6360 with them and they
DO support data on TDMA with your DLR-3 cable. It's $4/month for "wireless
internet" and uses your plan minutes.
Good luck!

My first guess is that you cannot do any sort of data with the 6360 as
AT&T has disabled any access with the system. Similarly you cannot
use any sort of data on most prepaid systems unless the carrier
enables it.
