A friend and I both are experiencing our 3650's turning themselves off.
It's not related to low battery or accidentally powering them off.

A search of newsgroups finds others have experienced this also but I didn't
find any solutions. I also read the latest firmware is v3.16.

We have firmware v2.54. I checked the nokia site but didn't find an
    upgrade.

2 questions. Will the upgrade fix this? Where do I get v3.16?

    Thanks,

    Gary

It's sort of a known issue. The Firmware notes for 3.16 don't say
anything about fixing the problem, but it does.

That's the latest in the US, there are slightly newer versions in other
regions, but they haven't been localized/tested in the US yet.

Definitely a buggy version, as far as the power-off symptom goes. Lots
of folks have seen this with 2.54.

Definitely will fix it, but the only official way to get this is
through Nokia directly. Most likely, you'll need to send the phone to
them, takes about a week to turn it around.

    Re: 3650 shutting off

Check the Nokia support page and find the nearest repair center (level
2 or 3) and call them. Some of them can do firmware upgrades, but may
charge you about $20 for the service. It is about 30min of work and
definitely faster than sending the phone to Nokia repair facility (
which is free, but you pay for the shipping).

    Good luck

    Re: 3650 shutting off

The first Nokia repair center listed in my area (So. CA.) told me I needed
    to call T-Mobil.

T-Mobil told me to call Nokia.

Nokia told me to call their service centers (many listed as level 2 and 3
support in my area). They also said the "powering down" was not a known
problem to them and they had no fix for it. I said a friend and I were
experiencing the problem and I had read about several others in the news
group. I would like to report the problem. We got in to a circular
conservation where she said repeatedly "that doesn't mean all 3650's have
the problem". I said repeatedly that "all I want to do is report mine".
After several rounds, I thanked her for her lack of assistance and said good
    bye.

I called 6 more service centers and they all said similar things, Nokia has
not released any upgrades for the 3650 and hasn't even provided them with
the cable required to perform upgrades.

As each of these calls required navigation through a voice menuing system
and then explaining my request to human who transferred me to another and
then another before being told they couldn't help, I spent more than an
    hour on the phone.

The only thing good about this phone is I got it free after rebate. (OK the
camera is kinda fun) I just wish it would stay on.

How did the world get so complicated that its now almost impossible to
    accomplish anything?

You got in touch with a moron, sorry about that. Give Nokia a call
again at 1-888-665-4228, and speak with another rep. Tell them you
have firmware 2.54, and you've been told by another Nokia rep that
firmware 3.16 will correct your issues.

Mention the intermittent shut off, and also mention that in the Tools
folder, you do not have the Call Forwarding application (another issue
that 3.16 fixes, I'm assuming your phone will be missing this app).
They should then arrange to get the phone sent in for service.

What you found out about the local centers matches what I was also
told, the firmare update is only done by Nokia, not their field sites.
I've heard reports of some being able to do this for a price, but I've
also heard that this may not be the official US release of 3.16, and
I've read reports of folks having additional problems after these
updates, so while it might be tempting to get it done quickly, best bet
is to get it shipped in and be done with it.

    Re: 3650 shutting off

Bad luck with the reps. Call Nokia again and ask for the number of the
repair center in Santa Ana. They can do the upgrade, but i cannot tell
if it is "original from Nokia" or not (it will be weird if it is not,
but who knows?!) They ask for $20, because Nokia does not reimburse
them for that service, even if you have problems related with the
firmware version (like Bluetooth problems, missing Call Farwarding
icon and so on). I am also in SoCal and I have decided to send my 3650
to Florida, where is the "official" Nokia repair center for
California. I did that about 12 days ago and I still do not have the
phone back. When I receive it - I will share the experience.

I spoke directly with a very knowledgeable tech in Santa Ana. He told me
they didn't have the software and hardware (cable and stamps if I heard
    correctly) to do 3650's.

I'll watch for your experience ...

    Thanks

    Gary

    Re: 3650 shutting off

That's is really weird. I spoke with some girl there and she told me
they do firmware upgrades, but she also said that you can transfer all
contacts to the SIM card at once on 3650, which is impossible, so you
    may be right.

Anyway - I recommend sending your phone to Florida for the upgrade. I
am withT-Mobile and I've negotiated with them to cover half of my
shipping charges (about $18 for overnight) and getting a loaner phone,
while you're waiting. I just got my phone back and it took less than
10 days in total for the shipping and the repair. The phone is fine
for now (firmware 3.16), but I'll need few days to find out if the
    "shutting off" problem is gone.
