How annoying is it that the screen light goes out after about 10 seconds of
inactivity????
How can I fix this?

Ok, thanks. I find it annoying. We should have the choice
as to whether it turns off, or at least the time interval before
it turns off.

You can't. No nokia can with the exception of the series 60's, and even then
it's only a 3rd party app that lets you keep the backlight on permanently.
It can be annoying, but it's less annoying than you battery going flat in
only a few hours. the Backlit colour screen eats batteries fast.
