    just brought a laptop with win xp but it aint got a serial port.

    so i got a USB to serial adaptor i've also downloaded userport but i still
    can't get it to work.

    anyone no how to set it up?

    I had the same problem and B-Phreaks told me that It hadn't been tested on
    Processors
    above 1Ghz so that may be the problem

    If a reply is expected it may be delayed
    Wifi access points dependant.

    failing that calling my mobile gets an almost immediate response

    Processor speed has nothing to do with serial port behaviour.

    When I said "B-Phreaks told me that It hadn't been tested on Processors
    above 1Ghz so that may be the problem" I meant the software not the serial
    port and as the OP said he had just bought the laptop I thought that may
    have been a factor. I should have spelt it out clearer My apologies
