I was going to buy my daughters (in their twenties) a handsfree installation
in their cars, to go along with the new UK law to keep them safe and legal,
and found a problem: I dont know if you can advise.
They both said that they changed their phones often and didnt know if the
kit would work on their new phones. One has a Nokia from her work that she
might leave in the spring and was worried that then it would be useless if
she bought or acquired a different make. The other has a Nokia now but likes
to keep up with the latest developments and doesnt know if she would want to
be constrained in her future choice by her car handsfree equipment.
So: is their a Universal Car Handsfree Installation in existance or on the
horizon? ; that will work with any phone (and hopefully in any modern car)?
I think we've abandoned the idea and it'll be a telescope instead!
Our brave new world of handsfree is going to mean a lot less phonecalls
being made and Health and Safety Man has another victory.

Depends a lot on what phones they have at the moment, and what they may
intend purchasing in the future. If the current phones are BlueTooth
equipped, that would be your best bet as more and more handsets are coming
with BT (not many Nokia's though). I'm afraid that's about as universal as
it gets for a fully fitted kit, and IMHO the best option. Alternatively,
you could always buy one of those crappy £1.99-£14.99 "Universal" handsfree
kits that use an acoustic coupler, but the results very from dire to
completely useless IMHO.

Re: handsfree future shick
I have seen them at the markets in Sydney, try the local haymarket or big
place with little stalls.
the devices are made in Asia and imported, just like fancy lighters with
flouro lights, etc..... local markets that have heaps of bargain type stuff
is the best bet.
the best thing is they will work with any phone, downside is they need to
have the radio tuned to a frequency, but you can store it in the stereo head
unit I suppose.

Re: handsfree future shick
If you stick with Nokia phones then look for the ones that use the Cark 126
car installation kit. (Look up the phones at www.nokia.com - the car kits
they use are in the individual phone pages under 'Enhancements').
Most of the latest Nokia's use this kit in combination with the appropriate
phone specific holder / cradle. When you change your phone you only need to
change the phone holder, not the whole kit.
