I have a Nokia mains charger, not working. Want to open it up but it uses
tamperproof screws - similar to pozidrive/philips, but not crosspoint -
    three cornered!

Anyone know where you can get the screwdrivers? What name does this "type"
    of screw have?

tools section. they come on a blister card. the bits are held in a
rectangle rubberized holder, think you get 14 or 18 different bits ranging
from the ones ur after and including star tip and all other popular security

You open them by undoing the 3 tamperproof screws.

It is a common fault for the core(s) of these leads to break at the point
    they exit the case.

The solution is to unsolder the ends, cut of the few cms of the broken cable
    and remake the connection.

This is the 3rd faulty charger I've come across, I'm asked to look at them
as I am a competent Electrical Technician, as such I would like the right
tools for the job and not have to grind an old screwdriver to fit these damn
    screws

    !

I have nothing against taking things apart, been doing it since I could use
a screw driver, but messing with something you plug into a wall socket is a
    bit risky.

The risk stems from the fact that the primary side of the device is
    connected to 240Vac.

If one only works on the device when it is disconnected then there is no
    risk of shock.

Careful working can ensure that when the device is reassembled and plugged
into the supply, a fault will not develop. If a fault does so then there
should be protective device, e.g. a fuse to protect the supply cable and
prevent explosion........but usually such devices have no fuse!

I also have the problem of an ACP-8 breaking at the end which has the phone
charging plug (phone end of the cable, in short). Couldn't fix it so I just
got a working used ACP7 from a local guy (via an auction site) for about
3.50 USD equilvalent...so why not just hunt around on ebay or something?
definitely safer although it may not be cheaper...

    xmas greetings...
hopefully some ppl gimme presents too ;-)

The name of the screw is "tri-wing". Drivers or bits for these are
included in most sets that include "security" bits, but unfortunately
these are smaller than the drivers commonly sold.

The closest fit seems to be the #0 tri-wing sold for opening the Gameboy
Advance, but it's really too large. The proper size is probably #00 but I
find no commercial source for such a size of driver.
