Sprint is expected to offer SMS starting next month. You will need a new phone
that supports SMS.
http://www.sprintpcsinfo.com has been following this story, and initially
reported that SMS would be free. Now they think you will have to have Vision on
your account in order to use SMS.

SMS is a data service. Data=Vision.
Note that the web site notes that it isn't affiliated with Sprint or
Sprint PCS. So any speculation on their part is just that,
speculation.

Whether SPCS will have a special "package" allowing a fixed number of
SMS messages for free or a fee less than full Vision is something that
only Sprint can answer.

Re: SMS Coming - free or not?
sms is different than vision. It doesn't use data at all. ESTIMATES here
are another $5 a month add on with vision like RL.

Why don't you SprintPCS employees get together so we can get this straight.
Rob vargas said it is data.

shortmail is data, sms is sms. it is a different messaging server. It is
similar in that it is the opposite of voice, but is different nonetheless.
It would be nice, if it costs more, to have them leave shortmail up and
free, so you can chose, but no one knows until it is launched.

To be competitive with the SMS kings like T-Mobile and AT&T, they should
probably included something like 50 free SMS messages per month with each
line of service. My Wife used to have T-Mobile and the $19.99 plan and I
used the 50 free SMS messages to send her notifications in the same way I do
with Sprint PCS and text notifications. The 50 free was nice, and she could
respond if she wanted, which sent them back to my regular email address.

Of course it's ****ing data. What other method of conveying information
could SPCS possibly be using? Telepathy? Quantum physics? A little guy
inside your phone who quietly calls *2 and whispers the content of your text
message into an operator's ear?
I suppose option #2 is technically possible; after all, this is the company
that built the nation's first all-digital network from the ground up...

I think SprintPCS sould have a great competitive product on their hands if
they offered unlimited SMS Messaging as part of their Vision service. I can
see the commercials now: a young woman holding a competitors phone and a
calculator as she tries to figure out how much this "conversation" with
their friend is costing while Flasher guy stands there and tells her that
she could SMS her friend all she wants (for free?) if they had Sprint.

i find it easier to just send sms web-to-phone.. plus you can spoof who the real sender is... i like that;
http://www.agentsms.com
their site loads kinda slow from Asia though, other than that it's all good
