Does anyone out there just want a decent phone that's not too
expensive (since I'm not into taking pictures or emailing with my
phone) with a company that has good reception? I must be in the
minority because the cell phone companies aren't focusing their
business models towards customers like myself...

The assumption apparently is most families that can afford a cell phone
already have two, and now every teen ager and college student should
    have their own also.

The people in Japan have already figured out where the true target audience
    is.

Now if they would make advertisements like that is the USA, then I would
    watch the commercials. :-)

Yeah- the fifteen seconds it took to find and post the link was a lifetime.
But probably not as long as it would take me to change my ID 43 times, or
    make up lies and untruths.

or excuses for SprintPCS' abysmal customer service that caused it to be
    rated worst by JD Power.

Wouldn't know about that- never done it. And what does that have to with
Boost Mobile commercials? They're not affiliated with Sprint..

And, by omission, thanks for admitting to the lies and untruths.

Check out http://www.tracfone.com It's a prepaid thing, but if you get a
prepaid card good for 1 year and 150 minutes, you can add minutes to it, and
    NO MONTHLY FEE!!!!

I just got a Nokia 3589i with Verizon. Basic phone, great reception
    in my house and elsewhere. I paid $29.99 with a 2-year contract;
might find it free in some markets, perhaps at Circuit City. You can
do a two-week trial to test it and get your money back if it's bad for
    you.

I'm paying $39.99/month for 400 peak minutes on the America's
Choice plan. You can do better with other carriers (cheaper price or
more minutes) but you might not get great coverage. The AT&T phone I
just dumped got crappy reception in my house vs. my new Verizon
service. My friend who lives nearby gets crappy T-Mobile service in
house. I'm paying more for my Verizon service than I would elsewhere,
but I'm willing to pay for better coverage and reception.

Amazon.com even has special offers on phones where you get a bonus on
the phone beyond the rebate, so it is "more than free". You won't
find such offers with Verizon on Amazon, however.

Whether you will get good reception depends on where you live in
relation to a carrier's towers, not just on the phone. Do you live in
the city or in the country? This may limit your provider choices. If
you have choices, try a few of them.

WRONG. You will pay at least the $36 activation fee, and likely a full
monh of service also at Sprint.

And you know all promotional offers from a carrier you are no longer a
    customer just how?

Maybe Executive Services told you again.
