Actually, it is your news reader. I had the same problem and even commented
on it to Rob. He was nice enough to point me to this half-hearted fix which
    I use now.

ezula? What kind of warnings? I have to open OE first and then start the
fix manually, it does not run as a service or start automatically in anyway
.... that is why I call it a half-hearted fix. I prefer Forte Agent when I
have to opportunity to use it. The machine I am working on now however does
not have it installed, and I am not going to install it.

I use a product called Internet Cleaner, which lets me know when spyware is
sent to yours truly. It notifies yours truly when double click, ezula and a
number of other spyware products show up, and then removes them.

Ezula is suppose to be non-evasive, but it's still considered spyware ...

His "From" header contains weird (possibly Unicode?) characters in the
e-mail address. My newsreader will not let me post a followup unless I delete
the characters - it includes an attribution that just copies the e-mail address
verbatim. Usually I just delete the attribution.

    I don't use OE.

Spyware usually doesn't come via e-mail. The usual vector is some
banner ad like "MAKE YOUR DOWNLOADS FASTER" with an executeable to
run for instalation. If people wouldn't install every ****ing piece
of pretty software they see, they wouldn't have the spyware problem.

    Ah, so. Thanks, Steven.
I've noticed before that Rob cleverly uses the decimal 140 and 147 =
    characters,
but they've never caused me any problems.
Maybe your newsreader insists on 7-bit ANSI characters in lieu of =
    8-bits?
If so, it might be treating Rob's characters as parity errors.

I never said it came via email. Those spyware programs arrive via cookies
from particular sites ... As to ezula, that shows up everytime I load up
Lotus Notes, and with that OE Fix program ... I've also seen it come in an
    occasional cookie as well.

I am 100% sure that is the issue.

I'm using tin on a FreeBSD shell account.

    ???

Really? For me, OE Quotefix created a new program group in my start=20
menu, and then, in that group, there's a setting that lists "Outlook=20
Express with OE Quotefix" Click on that, and OE starts up with Quotefix=20
running. I even deleted the regular OE shortcuts and copied that one=20
    into place.

See if that's an option for you.

    AH! Sorry, Steve, that's my anti-spam protection. It's how I've chosen=20

no they don't. Cookies aren't executeables. Cookies are just data that
sites leave on your computer that other sites can read/check. They
can be used to spy where you go, but they aren't "spyware". Spyware is
software installed on your machine between you and the internet. They
log all web access and download additional pop ads. A fine example is
a popup ad where they affected website doesn't have any advertising content.
The ads can even pop up when you aren't connected to the internet.
    Cookies can't cause popups.

Oh, it was an option, but it still loaded ezula using OE-Fix ... So, I'd
rather use the plain jane version of OE.
