Who is the other cellular carrier there? How strong is that
carrier's signal in your store? Maybe Sprint PCS' prl includes that sid
    and not verizon's sid.

As some others have mentioned, Wisconsin and most of Minnesota are much
better covered by Sprint than by the somewhat minimal coverage provided by
Verizon in those states. Sprint covers western Arizona along I-40, and
Verizon doesn't. Sprint has native coverage, in fact, in the plains states
along I-40 where Verizon doesn't (Oklahoma City is one place that comes to
    mind).

There are probably some other spots too...

Verizon coverage in much of the country is *very* good. But it's not very
    good *everywhere.*

VZW has sufficient coverage in her part of town and more than meets her
needs. She has been "test driving" the phone for several weeks now and is
very pleased with it. However, I am far more demanding of my wireless
service than she is (and most other people for that matter). And if she
ever wants out, I'll pay that $175 too.

Thanks, Quick. You're right, I'm not leaving the group. I disappeared for
a while as I was having some major newsfeed problems but those have been
resolved and I'm back in action.

Not leaving the group... still here to dispense advice and opinions.

Might I also point out that there are those of us who not only know our
stuff, but we're not stupid enough to divulge trade secrets and have
ourselves forcibly removed from our employer...

    Bob,
Thanks for the clarification. That's some _very_ exciting news and a
major shift for SPCS. I'll have to take a look at the PRL breakdown
and new coverage maps, if they're available somewhere?

More extensive network coverage and competitive plans are a win for
everyone, no matter which service provider they are using.

With the growing pressure from the GSM camp, I suspect a great deal
more cooperation among the CDMA carriers and their analog roaming will
    be required.

I think this move towards a greater sharing of CDMA networks has been
planned for some time. Verizon's huge installed base of 1900mhz
capable handsets with some SPCS roaming... and now, 800mhz D/A roaming
    plans on SPCS.

While Verizon is offering all digital, Sprint like AC calling plans,
Sprint is offering Verizon like, roaming partner plans. Interesting!
