Data cable for internet, stalling out?

<Anyhoo, does anyone know why, seemingly at random, this connection type
will
lock your IE so that it acts "dumb" and cant find anything?>
I had good luck by running a ping in the background but, I, too, would
experience what you did. Sometimes I had to remove the battery from the
phone and then it would work pretty good for awhile. Good luck. DonnaB

I am using Win98se, IE6 and a Sanyo 8100 with data cable for some surfing. I
use only a DUN dialing #777 and have Sanyo driver I was given for the
"modem".

When this works it is great, good speed and such. Compression is apparent in
the photos.

lock your IE so that it acts "dumb" and cant find anything? It will just act
like the page or content is not there. If you refresh it acts likes it is
trying, even receiving burts, bit nothing. The pages are there, thats not an
issue. It does something to IE, because if I disconnect and then dial in on
my Dial up ISP, it connects, but cannot find anything. If I reboot, then I
am ok again.....until I use the Phone to connect again then it might work
for 5 minutes or maybe 45 who knows, then without ant warning, boom your out
again. Never a problem if I stick to Dail up.

Anyone know what this stupid connection or driver is doing? Is it Sprint
sending a stop command to your cache or something to keep you out? I know
they don't want people using the "unlimited data" plan they sell them.

It is allowed - otherwise you wouldn't be able to do it. Sprint does not
approve of it but does not, at this time, make you stop doing it unless you

"Can a customer use their handset as a modem on an unlimited Vision plan?"

"No, customers on an unlimited Vision plan should not be using their handset
as a modem."

Some customers are purchasing a Vision handset and a data cable to connect
their phone to a laptop, using it as a modem on an unlimited Vision plan.
When this occurs, the customer is getting internet access on their laptop
with the ability to up/download thousands of megabytes per month in data.

The terms associated with our Unlimited Vision plans provide that "these
plans are not available with PCS Connection Card, PCS Connections Kits or
other devices that can used as a modem.".

On November 24, 2003, we will update our terms and conditions to include an
additional reference to this restriction.

If a customer asks if they may use their handset as a modem:

Please respond with: Our unlimited Vision plans only permit you to gain
internet access through the handset itself. If you should choose to use a
Connection or Data kit, we have special metered plans which you may sign up
for.

If the customer would like to know how to use our services for wireless
internet access:

Please respond with:You may visit a Sprint Store to check out a Connection
Card, which may be plugged into the laptop for wireless access with the
purchase of a separate service plan.

Then Sprint better sue Future Dial for making and selling the cables.

I pay for unlimited serivce, I will use it.

Using it as a modem is different than using packet switched mode. The
latter merely uses #777 to access it as it is already ON the network if
your phone is on. #777 is really more of a login than a dialup even though
it looks like a serial modem to the computer. Dialing a regular isp via the
phone is using it as a modem but is also MUCH slower.

Oh, quit top posting or people will think you are just using the default
settings of Outlook Express. Oh but you ARE using Microsoft Outlook Express
6.00.2800.1158 is see. Hmmm.......

its not IE its the phone.

nothing you can do about it. sometimes it "stalls" and simply can not get it
back.

just disconnect and reconnect.

it works very well and I use it as lightly as I can to keep under their
radar.

just take it and be happy you can do it at all without paying a small
fortune !!! :-)

you are uselessly sucking up airtime bandwidth and this will cause them to
crack down on us cable users.

be respectful of the VERY limited network PLEASE I beg you.

go ANYWHERE else and it costs $60 to $100 to get internet on your pc via
your cell phone.

Sprint only charges $15 and "looks the other way" so long as we do not kill
the network.

browsing and e-mail is all I do. the only time I download anything is LATE
at night during off peak time and then I keep it to an absolute minimum.

I do not want to lose the ability to link to my laptop for $15 a month.

if it stalls so what. disconnect and reconnect it only takes a few seconds
and for that few seconds you can continue to have wireless anywhere internet
bliss.

Plus I am allowed to do it. I made it very clear how I would be using it
when I renewed my contract.

so for me is contractual. so long as I do not abuse it (the rep did specify
that)

I do not.

running a ping just to avoid having to reconnect once in a while is abusive
to me.
