My spouse and I both have the old 300 minutes for $30 old ancient plan. We
never had a contract. Think we have been with PCS for 4years now. Oh and
no N&W free or anything. In fact we still have the old Samsung 3500 phones.

Any advice or suggestions to get a better deal from Sprint or should we just
    switch to another carrier?

Give them a call. See what they will offer. Tell that you've been happy with
the coverage, and want to know if they can provide a better deal for more
minutes and some credits on some new phones. I just worked out a sweet deal
with them, which starts on the next billing cycle.

    Bob,
What kind of sweet deal and do you have to sign a 2 year contract? And what
do you have currently? Are you currently on a contract?
Yeah and I need help on how to sweet talk the CS. lol

Well, I'm not going to go into all the details, as I'm guessing each account
will qualify for different perks depending on how long one has had the
service and how large their monthly charge is. I have been with SPCS since
1998 and my monthly bills were exceeding $130, including taxes and
    surcharges.

What I did was drop my 3 phone plan from 2000 AT minutes to 1200 AT
    Got the 7:00 PM N & W minutes (I did not have N & W on my plan previously)
    Kept the F&CA option
    Kept the PCS2PCS
Kept the Vision Picture Pack on 2 of the phones (I only had the Picture Pack
    on one phone previously)
Got a 5% discount on my monthly expense
Signed on to a 2 year contract.

As we did not use all of our 2000 minutes, reducing the AT minutes was
absolutely no problem, as the N & W & PCS2PCS will more than cover us.

As to the pointers to work a better deal, I've already posted those twice
    this afternoon.

When I called about a month ago, before I called, I followed advise
and looked up some t-mobile rates, so that I could imply that I was
considering going to another carrier, as I could get more minues for
about the same money, and that I was considering do so; they gave me a
lot more minutes. I didn't sweet talk, I just asked could they give
me a little better deal--the nights and weekend minutes are a given,
and after yu get this, ask for something else free, maybe the m2m
minutes, or something=--and of couse you need a new phone credit; I
always wonder who had the 3500's that worked.

Oh, my argument was also that I would have better coverage in my area
with another carrier; just be sincere in your discusssion---And if you
don't get any results, advise the c/s rep that you are going to think
about it for a day or two--call back at anothe time--I have wondered
if working the pharase" how to I port my number to xyz carrier???

Let us know how you do.

I was wondering did you ask claire to speak directly to a rep or did you
tell claire you were canceling before making your request? It is kind of
funny they seem to have made the cancelation response from claire seem
concerned with a bit of feeling in it :P

How many minutes a month do you use, or how many do you want to
use? It looks like you are getting 300 minutes each now for a total of
$60. The new plans would be a total of $70 for 300 minutes each, unless
you did an Add-a-Phone then it would be $65 for 500 minutes shared,
although you would get free nights and weekends.

I always just ask for a "specialist" as claire says. I would really
hate not got to speak to just a "normal" or sub normal type---

After discussing my problem with the specialist, he transferred me to
someone who "might be able to help me" I did not ask for
retention---However, I truly did have an apparent "tower" problem
which was finally fixed after about a month--another thing that may
have help, I had called about the problem 3-4 tims previously; I was
calling back to ask why nothing had been done, thru that time?.

But as I have posted previously, I got more minutes, sprint got more
$$--which I suspect the end goal anyway.

Did you have to ask for Retention or did you get the deal from a regular CSR?

When Claire asked, I said cancellation ... Was nice and polite with the rep,
using the comments above, and she worked out a nice deal. Took all of 10
minutes on the line to work it out.

I use to have that plan as well. It was a Holiday 1999 promotion that
didn't require any contracts. I kept that plan until January 2003 when
I finally broke down and added the $10 unlimited Vision to my account.
I still have 300 anytime minutes for $30 but now I have N&W at 9PM and
signed a one year contract which is now expired so I'm back to month
    to month again.

I have that plan and I'm never changing:

    300 min/30 dollar, F&C, FIMF, 7PM.

I added "webmail" and the ability to use voice minutes for WAP for a
    couple bucks each.

The great part is that when I upgraded from my old 90 min anytime/ 500
weekend plan, the agent was able to keep my 500 weekend minutes for me.

So maybe you can tell them that you were considering changing, but you
would like some weekend minutes to stay.

3500 is a great phone (like my DTP).

I believe that this advise from Bob is right down the middle of how to
handle it..As I had also posted earlier, check out the t-movile minute
plans to use as leverage to get moe minutes---with a low $ plan, like
you have, it may be hard to get a whole lot more--in my case, last
    summer, I called because I only had an old 250 min plan/35 w/ 8pm
nights---my question at that time, could I get more minutes and keep
8pm---instantly gave me another 100 min with no upcharge and kept
8pm--then last month gavve me another 400 min, but bumped the charge
    to $40 plus my vision & f&CA-----as I mentioned, I've got a lot more
minutes, but sprint gets a little more $$.--and you don't have to
accept a deal that isn't to your liking either--but in both of my
calls, it was so quickly offered and accepted----In both of my calls
though, I was sincere in what I wanted, asking, rather than demanding,
and with a solid explanation of what I was being offered from another
    carrier, etc.

Again, believe deal to be a win, win==I have a great plan, they have a
happy customer---now if I can just get free M2M added at contract end
    next summer.
