What does everyone think of Sprint's SMS pricing plans? I think that
the bundle of 100 seems a little low considering other carriers offer up
to 500 messages for the same price. Then you get charged 10 cents for
*both* incoming and outgoing messages after that, which almost forces
one to go to the unlimited option ($10 for people without Vision, $5 for
    people with Vision).

I am happy to see sms finally being rolled out, but this pricing
    structure gives me mixed feelings.

Where did you find this pricing structure? I was under the impression
that Vision customers already get unlimited SMS.

I am in the Northern Indiana market, so the pricing here could be
different. But for me it is:

    Unlimited SMS messaging (w/o Vision)=$10
    Unlimited SMS messaging (w/vision)=$5

    100 SMS Text Messages (w/o Vision)=$5
    100 SMS Text Messages (w/Vision)=included

Individual Text Messages (in excess of 100 bundle pack or for those who
do not select a pack)= .10 each to send and receive

It's a bit more complicated than that. Receiving messages from other=20
SPCS customers will be free. Sending *to* them, will not.

And Vision customers who are active prior to the launch date (and keep=20
that very same Vision package) will be grandfathered with unlimited=20
    messaging.

I need to stress that. You *must* keep the exact same Vision pack. The=20
very one you had prior to SMS rollout. Change it in any way (i.e. to=20
add RL service), and now your paying for SMS if you want it unlimited.

    WOW!!!
Quick question... probably one of many...
If you have a Shared plan... what happens...
    For example..
I have 5 phone on a 'shared' plan..4 are Vision. one is not.( an A460!, but
    it does have wireless web)
Will this one (A460) still share in the 'grandfathering???

    Re: SMS Pricing

Thanks for the information! I do have one question, does this apply to
the Shortmail or the actually SMS feature in the phone?

For example, I'm still on the $10 vision plan from ages ago. I will be
activating a VM4500 in the KC market (where SMS is now available)
later this month. Will I be able to send/receive unlimited messages
via SMS and not get charged, or will I just be able to do that via
    shortmail?

    Thanks.

    Michael

No. It has no package that would include SMS, so it would have to apply=20
whatever is available if/when you ever upgrade it to an SMS-capable=20
    phone.

Shortmail, however, will remain as it is now, until (probably years=20
    away) it's gone.

Ah, another wrinkle. SMS-Capable phones will have Shortmail removed as=20
an option a few weeks after SMS is officially fully rolled out.

The key here is the Vision Package, and that $10 package qualifies. So=20
long as it does not change, you've got unlimited SMS grandfathered in.

How Shortmail works (and is billed) is not changing.

    Thanks for th einformation.

I have a Sanyo 5300 and unlimited Vision. Do I need to get an sms
capable phone soon before a certain date to get unlimited sms, or
could I wait to upgrade my phone in June to a Treo 600 without paying
more? I am in the New York market.

This part is a real bummer. Do you think there's any way to get around it
for people who want to make changes (add RL, remove VM, etc) without having
to be penalized for it? Like adding a historical code, or putting a note on
    the account, or something?

None. The codes Customer Care handles won't be changing at all. They=20
built the grandfathering into the computer code the billing codes=20
access. There's nothing we can do to hold it in effect.
