    Does *4? #min on Verizon is a wonderful way to make sure I don't go over
    my minutes (sends a free txt message and if you stay on the line will also
    read your minute usage and balance to you, and is usually accurate within
    24 hours of the time you call). I'd use *4 on Sprint but I've heard in the
    past that it uses airtime.

    It does use airtime. It used not to, but now it does. (I use the Vision
    service to find out my minute usage)

    *2 does not use minutes. *4 does.

    It use to, before Lauer took over. I don't know whether he changed it so it
    wouldn't cost.

    It does use airtime *2 and 3 are free, the rest use min.

    Also, if you call one of the 800#s (888, etc.) from your Sprint phone
    to call customer solutions, that will also use up your minutes.

    That is, believe it or not, one instance where Sprint is *more* expensive
    than Verizon.

    I believe I can call 888-466-4646 or 800-922-0204 (two published VZW
    Customer Service Numbers) and not have the minutes taken out of my allotment
    because VZW treats calls to the 800 #'s like calls to *611. (or at least
    used to.)

    In fact, it used to be, at least in the area where I started service with
    them, that you could even call their retail stores airtime-free. No idea if
    that's still the case.

    Calls to the local retail store in east tn has been a *non-free call*
    for about the last two months.

    Don;t know about the 800 # calls.
