I just replied to a T-Mobile SMS on my Treo 600 --- and look no surfing to
    the web!!!

I guess this is how the other half has been living!

It feels better on other side of the railroad tracks.

If you go by the Sprint PCS website, SMS doesn't exist yet; although we
have many reports here of it now working on the phones that support it.

Its 4 levels down, and before you get there you can get to:

    http://www.sprintpcs.com/common/popu...Messaging.html

Which if you read, you'd never know SMS exists.

It doesn't? Why, then, is $10 unlimited SMS being offered at:

    http://tinyurl.com/254ju

Well its good there is a back door for it on the SprintPCS web site.
There is still zero text explaining it or promoting it. Unless you have
    a url for same.

You wouldn't know SMS exists by looking for it at

    http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/sh...opic=messaging
    Pictures

where you'd expect to see a new service promoted.

I don't know when, but it does work. That and I found that I can now
reply to shortmails sent to me from a regular email address. A few
months ago I didn't even have a reply option.

We were told that those who have SMS capability will soon lose Short
    Mail capability, so be prepared.

Ah, another wrinkle. SMS-Capable phones will have Shortmail removed as
an option a few weeks after SMS is officially fully rolled out.

The key here is the Vision Package, and that $10 package qualifies. So
long as it does not change, you've got unlimited SMS grandfathered in.

How Shortmail works (and is billed) is not changing.

If one looks at the Sprint PCS website's decsription of Messaging:

    You'd never know SMS exists.

What do you mean, a back door? There's no back door there... you just
go to the front page, type in your zip code to see what plans are
offered, and in the plan detail page, it's right there. That's hardly a
    back door.

Ah, but my Sanyo 8100 isn't SMS capable.

Where can you go to find out which phones are SMS enabled. We have an
i500 and T608 in our house. Tried to find on my own at phonescoop,
but no luck, could that mean we are out of luck too?

    Thanks

There are currently six models that do SMS, and the i500 and T608 are=20
    not on that list:

    Treo 600
    Samsung VI660
    Sanyo VM4500
    Toshiba VM4050
    Nokia 3588i
LG1200 (although you must take it into a store for a software upgrade=20
    to do it)
VI600 (due out soon, from what I understand)

Rumors are flying about other phones. Including the PPC5050 (which=20
we were just told today has been completely cancelled). The ones=20
above, however, are the only ones actually doing it.

But when was SMS officially launched as a service or has it??

    It's not listed at:

    https://manage1.sprintpcs.com/Manage...action=doMyPla
    nSpecialOffers

    or at

    http://www.sprintpcs.com/common/popu...Messaging.html

Phillipe, just because something doesn't show up on THAT one page
doesn't mean Sprint is trying to hide it. To be honest, I've never even
BEEN to the link you specified until you pointed it out.

On the other hand, when someone goes to the Sprintpcs.com website,
what's the first thing they're greeted with? Enter your zip code and
find out what plans are in your area. Do it, and guess what? SMS is
    listed as an optional feature!

Your beef on this one just defies explanation. Sprint PCS' primary
service offering is voice, and that's what they heavily promote. SMS is
an add-on, so naturally it would be in the add-on section of the plan
    details page.

Would you rather that Sprint put up an annoying flash animation on their
front page touting "Sprint SMS" service, offering you the different SMS
plans, and then at the bottom put in tiny print "oh yeah, and we offer
    voice services too?"

And the URL for that is??

And the URL from Sprint PCS for a press release announcing the start of
    SMS is where?
