Sometimes, my Samsung A500 does not ring when others try to call me. I
have to turn the phone off and on. I have the firmware WD29 and the PRL
10020. It's not in the roaming area when the problem happen. Any tips
would be appreciated.

Re: My Samsung A500 does not ring sometimes
I think this is just part of digital cellular magic!
Last week, my A500 rang at nine o'clock in the morning--with the normal
voice call ring--to notify me that I had a voice mail. The voice mail had
been left at 5:00 the previous day. The call did not show up in the missed
calls or the incoming calls. The few problems I have had with the A500 have
been handled by re-booting the phone, but this one has me puzzled. I suspect
this and other anomalies has nothing to do with the phone--simply network or
routing errors in the system. Incidentally, I love my A500--great reception,
great sound quality and the data throughput on cables to my laptop is
excellent.

I gotta vent here on the whole "doesn't ring issue". Not looking for help,
really, just wanted to share:
I've been having the "no ring, call goes to voicemail" issue for the last
few weeks, on my Sanyo 4900. The problem is that the phone won't "wake up"
from power-saver mode.
Sprint's CSR's suggestions began with turning off the phone, and turning it
back on a minute later, on a daily basis. Then, the suggestion was
escalated to "turn off, remove battery, wait 1 minute, replace battery, turn
back on". Two CSRs swore up and down that they do this themselves,
including the tech who claimed that my voicemail "was corrupted" and claims
to have fixed it. I was also told that this should be done twice daily.
Today, I was advised to do the preceding, but also to make a phone call
right after. So, this will be my routine, morning and evening - wake up/get
ready for bed, turn off the phone, wait for the lovely melody, remove
battery (can't be good for phone body/contacts), wait, replace battery, turn
on, listen to some more lovely music, and call someone (*2 should do) to
establish service. Yeah, right.
Maybe if I hop on one leg, and sleep in a north-south position, the phone
will do magic tricks for me.
If I didn't HATE the experience of standing in the customer "service" line,
and having teenagers tell me "we never print out phone test results"
(Pasadena) or "our only tech never comes in on Fridays, and is here 9 am to
5 pm" (Santa Monica) at the sprint store, I would have dropped it off for
testing a long time ago. I'll drop it off tomorrow, see what happens.
Unfortunately, I'm not eligible for the 18 mos upgrade until July. The
first Sanyo 4900 didn't last that much, was replaced by a refurb w/6 mos
warrranty, the warranty ran out, and the 18-mos clock was reset. Oh well.
At least I'm month-to-month, with 3 lines, since 1997, so I may have some
leverage with retention dept.
sorry - just wanted to vent

Bruce, I check the call log for missed calls, they don't show up
either! I usually turn the phone off at night and recharge it.
I like the A500 for it size, look, and sound quality also.
LAArt , you may need to update the firmware or something.

There were software bugs before software version WD29 was released
that required you to reboot the power in order to make or receive
calls sometimes. This should have been fixed with the update though.
I also use the A500 and the 'call going to VM without ringing' thing
does happen sometimes. I think it's just someting that's network
related rather than phone related now. Every other phone I have used
since 1997 has had the same thing.

>=20
If your 4900 was replaced by a refurbished/reconditioned phone, then=20
it was ***not*** supposed to reset the 18-month "clock." If it's=20
been 18 months since the last activation of a **new** phone, then=20
you've met that eligibility requirement.
