I'm just getting oriented to the huge array of acronyms and service
types in cellular technology. I saw a review of the new Motorola
MPx200 in T3 magazine, and it looks like a great little phone. The
price seems right for functionality.
Ideally I'm looking for a PDAPhone, but the cost seems ridiculous.
Windows Mobile looks like a good compromise for a portable.
Here's a link to the phone from Motorola's site, pointing to ATT's
adoption.
http://commerce.motorola.com/cgi-bin...fnbr=1&zipcode
Will this work on Sprint's networks? If not, what acronyms should I
look for, or other indications, that will indicate a phone works on
Sprint's network? Or is Vision capable?
Thanks for any info.

Sprint will not activate a phone whose ESN is not already in
their system (i.e., commissioned by them).

Re: Motorola MPx200 workable on SprintPCS?
Nope, it won't work on Sprint. That is a GSM phone, Sprint works on CDMA,
so the hardware is imcompatible. For Sprint, theoretically, a phone must be
CDMA and work on the PCS band. But for all practical purposes, if Sprint
doesn't offer it directly, they won't activate it, so just check on their
website for the phones that will work.
By the way, the MPx200 isn't new anymore. There's supposed to be a MPx220
version coming out soon that's better in some way.

Only if Motorola makes a CDMA version and Sprint PCS asks Motorola
to make some for Sprint PCS.

So are there any phones with MS Mobile that work with Sprint? Or are
any of their phones "SmartPhones"?
I have a Sanyo 8100, and I'm very disappointed with it. It holds a
token lot of contacts, can't import calendar info, the phone is poor
and web browsing is very slow. I'd like to get decent PDA type
functionality without spending $700 on a brick.

New Sanyo i330 Palm phones show up on eBay at around $300.

From Sprint's website, the only phones that are "smart" are the:
Treo 600
Treo 300
Samsung i500
Hitachi G1000
Toshiba 2032
The first three are palm based, which I'm highly partial to. The other two
are pocket pc based. I would suggest taking a look at the Treo 600. It's
very highly rated and I wouldn't consider it a brick. It's $450 through
Sprint or $350 (after rebates) through amazon. You can research the phones
on www.phonescoop.com or at a Sprint store.
As for the "Sanyo i330", there's no such thing. If he's referring to a
Samsung i330, that's an out of date phone that's not even in the same league
as the Treo 600. It's definitely worth the difference.

Thanks. For me it's all about that fine balance between portability
and functionality. I've used a Kyocera 6035, a Handspring Visor with a
PCS module, and this 8100. The 8100 is really too small and
feature-poor to use as a PDA, but the other two were too large to
carry around very easily.
The "big" screen on the Moto in addition to a quite nice OS looks like
it might be a good compromise.
I put a bid out on a Treo 300 on EBay, but it's pretty low and I
expect the price will climb out of my range before auction end.
If someone made a clip-on thumbpad for the 8100 I'd prolly be able to
make do. =P

The Treo 600 is significantly smaller than the 6035 and the Visor, so don't
let them turn you away. I think it's also quite a bit smaller than the Treo
300. My problem with the Moto phone is that while it's excellent in
conjunction with a computer, it's a poor PDA replacement. Basically, all
your input has to be done on a computer, and then downloaded to your phone.
With the Treo's or any true PDA, inputing data into it is a lot easier.
Kind of a trade off between size and increased functionality.

For that matter, is *anyone* bringing out an MS Mobile smartphone for
Sprint?

According to an MVP on the Microsoft Smartphone newsgroup, there will
be one in the second half of 2004.
