I'm going to answer the questions in one post.
I do not know what 1.116SP has over 1.115SP yet, it has not been added
to the spreadsheet we have descpribing what each version does (but I
am keeping a close eye on it).
As for the update erasing all the information, I've heard stores of it
happening, but I've only heard of it a handful of times in almost 4
years of being a tech, and I've never seen it myself. I'd put the
chances at less than .001% of it happening.
Also, if the software goes bad (also very rare) there is a chance that
the phone gets "fried" which everything will be lost (the store will
replace it), but that is also very rare (and personally, if a phone
gets fried in the tech room I'm working, unless we know exactly what
happened (phone got unplugged, bad cable, wrong software), I'll stop
all updates on that model until it's resolved, I've even stopped doing
all updates for 2 (very busy) days to get it fixed.

Can't they do a "SnapSync" (or equivalent) save of my phone book data
beforehand?

Sure they can Kenny. Every time I see a new firmware and take my phone to
the store to get it downloaded, that's the first thing I ask the tech to do.
After the firmware download is completed, we check the phone, and the
phonebook and everything else is still intact. Then I ask them to delete the
phone book they downloaded on to their system.
Only thing that could go wrong is if the phone gets fried from the download
(which is very rare), and the store doesn't have an equivalent model to give
to you, to where the phone book format is compatible from the phone you
brought in.

If you go back to last August and September, you'd see how he got Justin
all bent out of shape with his insults and false accusations of lying.

We could, but that would double the amount of time it takes us to do
the software update.
In all honesty, the techs try to get phones in and out as quickly as
possible, we have a lot more to do back there than just look at
customers' phones.
I stress to all my techs that if they think there is an above average
chance of the phone frying to back up the phonebook.
In the few instances where I've heard that it has, it's involved
phones that the update works on the phonebook itself, mainly the A500
and A460, or they have to download a 'pre-load' version of the N400
software (that paticular version, is only done in rare circumstances
and they are instructed ot backup the phonebook first). (Or the phone
gor fried)
With those exceptions, it's almost impossible (I have to say "almost"
because certain people here will jump on me if they've heard of one
instance, I haven't yet) to lose your phonebook during the update.
Your average tech should take these percausions when involving a
higher risk update (stated above).

Well, the only phones that fry, at least that I've heard of here, are
certain lot numbers of models. Not all models. Going back to the Samsungs, a
certain number of 3500s and 8500s, and one other were fried on the first
upgrade on the phone, which failed through either being a bad lot, or a bad
upgrade.
Haven't heard of it happening posted here recently.

Never noticed that, the ony issue with the 3500/8500 is getting them
to connect (and no connection = no update). Luckily I've learned a
trick to get them to connect, and I haven't seen any fry.
The "other" model may be the Denso 2100 which did have a bad software
release for the UPST, it was quickly realized and very quickly pulled,
to be replaced a few months later (in fact, the installer for the
"fixed" version also uninstalled the "bad" version).

Good to know SprintPCS has such dependable equipment. NOT.

and that might be customer friendly, which SprintPCS would never want to
be accused of.

Its OK for Sprint techs to have problematic equipment if it ever has
happened anywhere else?
The logic of the Sprint apologists is amazing.
Sprint can do anything it wants as long as anyone else has ever done as
bad.
