    Hi all,

I saw the 'sprint v1600' non-flip phone appear on sprint's website
last week. Does anyone have any experience with this phone? Who is it
made by? I know that the samsungs,LGs, don't seem to get the best of
reception, so i was wondering who is making this one?

There was a whole thread last week about this Audiovox phone, with
some of us wondering why it's listed as a SprintPCS phone rather than
    a SprintPCS Audiovox phone.

And of course the blind SprintPCS apologists chimed in as they view it
as not politically correct to ever ask a question of Sprint.

I saw that thread and was surprised to hear it was an AudioVox. The SPCS
who does the ordering at our store told me it was a Samsung.

It's actually the VI-600. It's an Audiovox phone (posted clearly on
the box but nowhere else) and I'm currently testing it. I disagree
with the lone review on PhoneScoop and will post mine soon.

I think the sound quality--both directions--is very good; earpiece
volume is excellent and easily controlled. It's small and lightweight,
yet solid feeling. Reception is very good, although the signal meter
registers much lower than other SPCS phones. For example, in my house
the Nokia 3588i indicates greater signal strength, but the VI-600
actually performs better. No camera; don't care. Ringer volumes are
too weak, even at max setting. The speakerphone is OK, not stellar.

Battery life is regrettably shorter than some other SPCS phones, but
if you can charge frequently you might be able to live with that.
Frankly I'm not thrilled with the battery life (normal, not extended)
of color CDMA phones in general.

I'm still investigating other features: voice services, data, Vision,
etc. This could take a while because no data cable is currently
    available.

Overall, after using it as a voice phone for a bit less than a week, I
like it. Style-wise, it's a welcome, appropriately priced addition to
    the Sprint wireless phone line-up.

    In a nutshell,

Sprint is going to a new naming system, instead of seeing 5+ different
manufacturers for their products Sprint is naming all the devices
    "Sprint XXX handset".

    There is kinda a coding to go with it;

    VI - Vision access
VGA - Still camera & Vision Access
VM - "Video Mail" (all the features of a VGA and camcorder features)
    RL - ReadyLink & Vision

This doesn't always work - we have the VM4500 which also has
    readylink.

    It's just marketing.

It's also a pain in the ass, as when the ESN is loaded in our systems, it
shows the manufacturer's name, not Sprint's rename. So you have us calling
it one thing, and the customer's calling it a different thing. Especially
annoying with the VM4500 vs the original Sanyo 4500 (and yes there are still
a lot of those in use. I saw 3 in a 4 hour shift today alone.) I gave up
trying to remember which new name goes with which old name, I need my brain
cells for more important information I do at least remember VI is Vision,
RL Ready Link, etc, I just can't remember the numbers for each model to save
    my life.

You making this up as you go along? Every other
phone also lists its manufacturer. Except for
    this Audiovox one.

CASE IN POINT: the even newer Nokia 6225 which was falsely claimed to be
available last week was listed by Manufacturer. i.e. Nokia 6225

it wasnt called a Sprint VGA6225

Didn't realize that the name on the outside of the phone affected
performance. That would be the only reason I could think of for you having
such a hissy fit about this. Or, maybe its just because you are a whiney
*****. Wonder which one it is?

Ahhh. The Sanyo 4500. At one time it was the subject of one of Sprint's
secret recalls. The Speaker phone didnt work right in the 4500, and IF
ONE COMPLAINED, you got a free replacement of a Sanyo 4700.

And before one of the SprintPCS apologists say "you don't know that",
let me say, yes I do, as SprintPCS took two 4500's back and gave me two
    4700's for free.

My other favorite Secret recall was the Samsung Black 8500 which wouldnt
do Analog, but would be replaced for free with a Silver 8500 IF ONE
COMPLAINED. Guess what, I got swapped on those too.

So, if you had a problem with the phone, they replaced it? Boy, I'd *****
up a storm about that- how dare they replace faulty equipment.

And the problem with that was....?

Again, they replaced it. If you didn't need analog, it was a pretty good
    phone.

Thats not what I was told at the time that SprintPCS gave me a free
replacement of two Sanyo 4700s, because the 4500 had a known problem in
    speakerphone mode.

Was SprintPCS lying to me at the time?

Now there is a total lie. I never said every handset, you are just
trying hard to coverup for the SECRET WARRANTIES that SprintPSC has,
which was previously admitted to by a former SprintPCS employee:

    From: 3G Geek ([email protected])
Subject: Re: 8100 - shattered screen View
    Newsgroups: alt.cellular.sprintpcs
    Date: 2003-10-11 08:46:42 PST

It's not a secret list... we just have a list of things that are under
investigation or have been proven to be "known issues" with certain
phones. If a customer calls in and says their screen is blank or it is
getting hot for example, we check this list and find out if it is known
with that phone. If it is, we tell them and they can go get it
replaced. It is not every one of that model either, it may just be a
certain range of ESN's or ones that were distributed between certain
dates. I don't feel I can give a list of this because I don't know if
it is proprietary or not... if I find that it is not and I can give that
information without getting fired, I will be happy to.

Thats what I call a SECRET LIST of phones for which there is a SECRET
    WARRANTY.

You may now apologize for your lies.

And you call myself and O/Sirus a liar? There was no such recall. I
had a 4500 for over a year and didn't have a problem. Also, if this
was always going on, how did we replace it with a 4700 before it was
    released?

    > And before one of the SprintPCS apologists say "you don't know that",

My god, they gave you a WARRANTY REPLACEMENT. How horrible of them.
You just complain about anything and everything you can. There were
other reasons as for replacing 4500s with 4700s.

The 4700 was going to be 3G VOICE (not data) capable, thus making the
network run smoother, so if a 4500 needed a warranty replacement, we
were allowed to replace it with a 4700. Other than the 3G VOICE (not
data), they were essentialy the same phone.

    > My other favorite Secret recall was the Samsung Black 8500 which wouldnt

Oh my god, they did another warranty replacement. According to you,
there is a "secret recall" on every handset ever sold my Sprint PCS.
Your issues didn't affect 100% of the handsets, and just because it
has a warranty, doesn't mean there is a "secret recall" on it.

Not only that, it doesn't just take a complaint to get a warranty
replacement, the tech has to look at it to see if the issue is covered
under warranty (and if there is an issue). Of course, you'll deny
that and I'll chalk it up as you just went in crying like a baby, so
they noted your account as such, and just swapped you out just to shut
    you up.

Every new phone Sprint sells has a ONE YEAR warranty. Something goes
wrong with it that is covered, we'll replace it with either the same
    model, or something comparable.
