In the past few days, I've started to get junk Text Notifications -
    atleast two a day!

Is there way to filter out these junk messages, or to turn this
    feature off entirely?
My Sanyo 4900 is not on the internet - I can see the message without
    being logged on.
I am totally confused by all the choices in messaging - short email,
SMS, etc, and am pissed that junk email is being sent to my phone and
it automatically gets stored - the Sanyo User Interface sucks - when
the messages pops up, I don't get a option to delete, just to clear
the screen, but the message goes into storage!

If anyone knows how to turn these Notifications compeletely off -
    disable,
    let me know!

What you received is a text message (TM). What were in these TM's? Do you
know the source of the TM's?

Next, you can delete them. Click on your message button on your phone. You
should see three options, Short Mail, Email & Notifications. Scroll down to
Notifications, click ok. You will see one or more folders. Click the Top
Right button for options and just delete the messages.

Sure, if you know the source of these messages, like whether they come from
Yahoo, MSN or some other source, you can go to these sites on the web, like
mobile.yahoo.com or mobile.msn.com and stop the messages from coming.

You can turn off SMS or block certain domains from your 'online account
messaging' settings on the www.sprintpcs.com website.

B Wooster, you should be able to delete the messages before they are
stored (presumably in your 'unfiled' folder). Use View (the left
soft-key) open the the message, and, while viewing, press the Menu /
OK button. You'll get a context menu that includes the 'erase'
    option.

    Thanks, this worked best.

Some other replies mentioned the process to delete the message - yes,
I can do that, but it takes a number of key presses. Would have to
been to have a single (maybe two) keys to delete junk messages.

And all messages were from email addresses (yahoo.com, etc), so I
turned off the option that allows email messages being sent to my
phone, and now no more junk....

Turning things off does work, but in the long run thats a poor thing for
SprintPCS to allow or encourage. It wants text messaging to spread, like
it has in Europe and Japan (where messages are measured in the billions),
so it'll be a nice source of additional revenue, and customers will be
happy to pay the small fees for many messages.

But if more and more people are turning off messaging as the only way to
stop SPAM, there goes that source of revenue. And SPAM will continue to
increase geometrically. Soon likely there'll be Porn Spam Text messages,
followed by picture mail porn spam.

The simple solution is for SprintPCS to install White List filtering,
where you would allow messages ONLY from those on your "list", i.e.
friends and family and known colleagues.

One minor disagreement. There's a distinct difference between=20
shutting of the SMTP option of sending a text message to a phone, and=20
of shutting text messaging down altogether.

If the original poster only shut off the email part, he or she can=20
still send *and* receive from other phones.
