Specifically this week, in the parking lot of a business at
Commonwealth and I-295. Not just roaming, but virtually no signal at
all. Week before last, in the parking lot of a business right next to
    I-95 at JTButler Blvd......roaming.

In both cases, with an AT&T phone, a very strong signal.

Maybe it is the phone, maybe not. What I do know is that in 2 years
with Sprint, the ONLY solution they could keep coming up with is
"we'll update your phone's programming" which never did a thing to
    improve the issue.

I find it difficult to understand how, in a major metropolitan area
that is supposedly fully covered, even the "cheapest" phone can't get
a signal from the provider's tower.

If it IS the phone, and if it is, it is both mine and my husband's, as
both our phones go out at the same places, I can't understand why, in
two years with Sprint, nobody bothered to say "the phone sucks, get a
different one to resolve the problem", instead I get "well, at Disney
signals are difficult, in Jax, there could be a problem with signal
strength..." and so on and so on....

Go here to see exactly where SPCS has antennas and gauge if the green dots
(future antennas) are where you are not getting a signal:

    http://www.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/co...y=Jacksonville

I know that with my Nokia 3588i I had no problems going around Jacksonville
in my 18 wheeler a couple months. Admittedly the 3588i is great at signal
strength (with only 1 bar of signal strength a decent conversation is
    possible).

So your response is no response? Look, you've got problems, and I'm=20
not meaning to deny those problems. The point is that you've gone on=20

It *does* sound like the reps handling your calls and inquiries are=20
handling it very badly. But it's hardly valid to make criticisms of=20
coverage when there are posts here FROM USERS denying that it's a=20
    Sprint lack in those spots.

Cool map, thanks. In both cases listed below, it would appear I was
within a mile of an existing tower at each location.

As a side note, I've heard about the Whitehouse Navy field for years,
but finally believed it was just a myth...but heck, it's on the
    map..<grin>

Well, according to the map, there are towers within a mile of both
locations.....but I still had no signal.

Also, Sprint is one of the few carriers that owns their own towers, and
you can lease space from them - the list of tower sites is at

I don't understand your confusion. What in my response constituted 'no
response' to your statement? You stated someone else has had no
problems in those areas, I'm stating that I do. I also said it could
be the phone, but that nobody at Sprint Customer Service has told me
the phone itself could be the problem, other than "you probably need a
    program update".

    >not meaning to deny those problems. The point is that you've gone on
    >quite extensively about areas, and you even blamed what you are
    >imprecise and even wrong maps. However, at least one other user has

???? Can you clarify "blamed what you are imprecise and even wrong
maps"? I have not mentioned Sprint's coverage maps, although others
have. Someone today posted a link for me that shows where Sprint's
towers are in Jax and other areas. In the areas I can't seem to get a
signal in town, there appear to be towers within a mile. In my home
county, Baker, there is a tower, but it shows to be farther from my
residence (where I CAN get a signal with no problem) than the towers
    in town show to be.

You tell me what the problem is, I am just frustrated as heck that I
simply cannot get or maintain a decent signal in the areas I need to
use the phone the most while away from home. Last week, I kept
getting the voicemail indicator when my employer was trying to contact
me while at the customer site for 2 days. The voicemail indicator
would come in, but the phone would not ring on the incoming call, and
would not get a strong enough signal to place a call. I'd get the
voicemail, borrow my assistant's phone and make the call back to the
office. I was in the building and parking lot of a business that is
directly next to I295, just south of Commonwealth Ave. According to
the tower map, there was a tower about a mile or less away.

So, you tell me, where the heck was the signal from the darn tower for
two days in that spot? Now, I could leave that building and drive up
to the Commonwealth and I-295 intersection (about 2 blocks, max) and
get a signal strong enough to place a call (as I did when going out
for lunch). Make the turn off of Commonwealth and drive one block,
    and the signal was gone.

    >come here and claims to have refuted that there's no coverage or bad
    >signal in those areas.

There have been discussions in here about Sprint's Customer Service
and other things. I've not had any real problems with the CS folks,
and other than the fact that the website sucks, the only real problem
I have with Sprint is the chronic inability to get a signal when I
    need it most.

If I could get a decent signal on a consistent basis, I'd probably
    stay.

    >It *does* sound like the reps handling your calls and inquiries are
    >handling it very badly. But it's hardly valid to make criticisms of
    >coverage when there are posts here FROM USERS denying that it's a
    >Sprint lack in those spots.

Ok, then it is my imagination, as well as my husband's and my
assistant's imagination, when husband was trying to call me and when
assistant was shaking his head as I was swearing at my phone when I
kept tyring to call and the signal kept dropping, and just handed me
    his.

Perhaps those users should stand in the exact spots I was standing in
and make the tests there. To go from 3 bars to no bars in the space
    of 2 blocks.....

I have noticed that a pattern seems to be that I get no coverage in
    industrial/warehouse type of areas.

They also lease a sot of space as well. Spectr-Site and Crown Castle both rent
    space to Sprint PCS.

In the last 2 months EVERY site that has Sprint on it that I have been to is a
"Co-Lo" site and Sprint hasn't owned any of them.

Which is why a tower map is worthless, and SprintPCS needs to produce a
proper coverage map, as they claim to do as part of the Industries
Cellular Consumer Code, which they iognore.

And how do you propose that influences outside of the control of Sprint be
represented? How often would it need to be updated to be consistently as
accurate as you claim it should be? What specific data would be used to
formulate the map, if not tower location? How much are willing to add to
your service fees every month to pay for the software and backend support to
    accomplish this?

Do I expect a response- of course not. Robert never answers questions. Why
is that, Robert? Don't ever have the answers?

If it is my phone, it is hubby's as well (same model), since his and
mine go dead in the same spots when we're together.

In the parking lot I described, I could go 1 block either way and get
    a signal. Wierd.

On a side note, I was in Manassas, VA last week on business. Other
than at my hotel, I was bouncing between roaming and on network all
week. At Dulles airport, it was strictly roaming.

On Manassas Rd and Centerville road area, it kept going from roaming
to pcs to roaming to pcs to roaming, often in the middle of a call,
which was annoying as heck. sigh.

    >Deb, I don't know what to say, but again, the problem more than likely is

Or that I happen to have the luck to have to work at the dead spots.

Either the model itself is bad, or hubby and I both got bum phones.
