Sprint provide the service of a message to callers that one's (sprint) cell # has changed ?

Does Sprint provide the service of a message to callers that one's
(sprint) cell # has changed ?

In other words, if someone has lived in Florida for years, then
switches to Sprint. But keeps her previous cell phone number from
T-Mobile.

Then relocates to California a few months later wishes to change over
to a Los Angeles area code number.

Would or does Sprint have any kind of a recording which tells callers,
for say a month or so, that the phone number has changed and tell them
the new phone number ?

Short answer: no. There's no *requirement* with SPCS that you must=20
change the number. But we provide no transitory services like that=20
if you do opt to change it.

My question is whether Sprint does or will offer a message, as does
one's local land line company, simply informing callers to the
"former/old" phone number and tell them what the new number is.

Just that simple.

Does Sprint provide that simple utility ?

I didn't think it was possible to port a number across area codes, as
would be the case in a move from Florida to California.

It can be done. It's a two step process. First, we would swap her=20
to a number that *is* in the same coverage area as the number to be=20
ported in, and then we do a "port swap" to port the number in on an=20
existing account.

Which, effectively is the same thing as not porting a number at all,
since the number changes at some point.

What? Isn't the point to keep the number coming in? Under that=20
guideline, I don't get what you're saying. The number would be=20
changed anyway, because the customer is WANTING to change it to one=20
from another carrier.

It *is* a port. First we match the existing number to the service=20
area for the one being moved over. Then the desired number is moved=20
over. One extra step, but isn't the whole point *to* change an=20
existing number over to one currently on another carrier?

If you want to keep your number, simply change the "Billing Address" and don't
ever tell them that the service address has changed.

My wife kept her Dallas number for well over 2 years when she lived in
Fayetteville, NC and never heard anything from the cellular company.

I have been in NY, NC, and now LA for almost a year and went to paperless
billing. The subject of area of usage has never come up. And I still have my
Dallas numbers.

They don't care. Sprint didn't care if my wife kept her Cleveland number when
I moved to Apple Valley, and Verizon didn't care if I kept mine.

It's not their choice. Besides, they could always try my (local) number first.

For me it wasn't an issue because we moved in the summer and both had local
cell numbers by the time school started, anyhow.

this can all be handled by Vonage IP phone, it'll add a few bucks to your
monthly telcom total, but it's a neat service for just these sorts of
things.
