Is there a way to connect my Sprint Sanyo VM4500 cellphone to the phone jack
of a fax machine, to send a fax over a cellular connection?
VM4500: [male cellphone adapter] ------ cable -------- [RJ11 male] : FAX
machine
Thanks

No, Timo. Unfortunately, fax machines are analog devices that don't
talk to cell phones with the exception of some analog bag phones using
a special (expensive) adapter.
Of course, it's quite difficult to get an analog-only phone activated
just about anywhere in the U.S.

Good point, save that Sanyos can be forced into Analog. The problem is
getting the cable, which doesn't exist ....

Just remember, *if* you ever succeed, this is NOT a regular call. On=20
the older phones (non-Vision. Wireless Web) where this was easier to=20
do, it was 39 cents per minute the connection was active. Period. Not=20
counted against minutes. If you succeed, you'll pay that same per-
minute rate. Fax transmissions count as circuit-switched data. Not as=20
a regular phone call. And no, for the Wireless Web users still out=20
there, or others who realize Wireless Web was circuit-switched data=20
also, Wireless Web add-ons don't cover faxing, either.
fax=3D39 cents per minute. Period.

Say what?? I have Wireless Web and I send faxes all the time from my
PC via my trusty old StarTac. They just show up as Wireless Web calls
with no extra charges.

True, however there is a charge ... your $5 or $10 monthly option cost.

Yes, I am charged $5 for the Wireless Web add-on, but 0siris stated
above that the Wireless Web add-on doesn't cover faxing, which clearly
is not the case, at least for me...

That *is* interesting. The only example I ever came across was a user=20
with a Vision phone. They swore they got faxing to happen. They=20
certainly had the 39 cent-per-minute charge to corroborate it.

Well, was it because they had Vision that they got charged the 39 cents?
Think about it. Faxes run at 14.4Kb/s, the old WW speed. You can't do faxing
over Vision - it would have to use a slow data connection and you would be
charged 39c/min if you have Vision but use the older, slower data service, right?
