Why on earth would I want to start a new thread with the same subject? Your
    logic puzzles me....

Agreed. If I do not see the reply, but only quotes, I move on to the

But I have already read the previous message in the thread. And if
that was on a previous day and my memory fails, I can always move up one
message on the list to read it again.

Re: Top posting (Was: cell phone use in hospitals)

Why I like top-posting? If you are "following" the thread, then YOU get the
most relavent information immediately, the last update. If you are "NOT"
following the thread, then you'll get the information in reverse order, and
you are welcome to read the entire note (if it is included).

While I might miss out on some information, I use a pre-view screen.
Pre-view appears to support top-posting, the most new/relevant information
on top. But if someone would contact the developers and have the preview
window start at the "bottom" or last item, then I'd add my comments at the
    bottom.

Top-posting supports people who are active in a comment; anything else is
more akward. But this is must my opinion, and if I miss a good comment
because it is on the bottom, so be it.
    dr

(does the following..<below>. actually help you with this thread... or does
my top information give you the jest of my comment and reply) Eithe way,
there is good info in the newsgroups, how easy it is, depends on how you use
it, your style, the thread, etc.

If your post has nothing to do with the topic at hand... Such as this
example, where you quoted nothing and changed the subject.

It would be one thing if you were following up on an existing topic, but
in this case, you were the one changing the topic.

I hate having to scroll when top posters do not snip the unimportant
    parts of a posting!

Far more common for top posters whose usual habit is to post and dump.

Regarding top-posting versus bottom-posting, I share the same sentiment as
Dr WireMORE. I find that I have to spend unnecessary time following
threads, as folks often leave too much information within the posts
(regardless of whether or not they top- or bottom-post). I am already
following whatever thread is in question, so having to scroll through text
that I've already read consumes my time.

I also agree with Joseph's posting that it appears that top-posters often
"post and dump", as it is easy to do (as in email).

I wish DevilsPGD the best in his endeavors, and accept that he and I have
differing opinions. I do not believe posting is as dichotomous as "top" or
"bottom", but rather whatever best fits the situation.

I am now leaving this thread as in the end, folks are going to post as they
    choose. Good luck to all!

Could you please repeat what DevilsPGD endeavors were?

Could you name some news clients that have "preview screens"?

Otoh, I use a *real* newsreader, Forte Agent, instead of Outlook Depress.
Agent features "single key read" which lets me advance one whole screenful
with a single press of the spacebar (or whatever key I specify).

    With my card/monitor I don't have that setting. I could choose 1280 x
    720 or 1280 x 960, but I use 1152 x864. I have a 17" monitor and any
smaller is too hard to read, yes with my glasses on. hihi The other
variable is where I put the dividing line between the message selection
area and the message display area. If all I see are quotes, I move to
    the next message.

The spacebar does that in OE, too.

What kind of self righteousness does it take for you to deride
the most popular program in its area as not "real"? You can like it or
not, but it's real, I assure you.

If you're trying to say that Microsoft has no input in setting computer
standards, I think you're wrong. They are represented on a lot of standard
    making committees.

And 90% of the posters in Microsoft newsgroups top-post, what does that
    tell you?

Accepted. And for the record, I have no beef with bottom-posted
messages as long as excess quoted text is snipped out.
