i set up an apache server on my computer to host some midi files to
download on my phone, but whe i go to the site it just plays the midi.
is there anyway to save it?

You need to generate or create by hand a .GCD file that describes the
metadata of your file. Point the phone to the GCD file, and it will
recognize the file and download the midi the GCD file references. I use
my Apache server to download media to my phone and it works great. Just
ignore the trusted content warning the phone gives you.
