Uh, might that be because AMPS service is not as widespread
in Europe and Asia as it is in the US? Smart people purchase
a cellphone that has the best coverage for their needs. In the
US, if you want off-road coverage you'd better have AMPS.

RCR Wireless News, http://www.rcrnews.com, has a set of wireless
statistics at the end of each weekly issue they publish. But those
kinds of stats aren't always in the published stats each week. I'm not
sure that anyone is tracking this more than quarterly, and even that (so
far as I can tell) is only based on the carriers' own released
    information.

It still doesn't tell people which Tv to buy to give them what they need--or
want. Do they get analog, or is EDTV good enough, or must it be HDTV. Does
it have a built-in digital tuner, or does it require a set-top box? It's
another situation where it's quite easy to make a poor cjoice unless one is
    a wise consumer.

There's really no point in continuing this particular discussion, as we keep
saying the same thing over and over. Again, I think we agree on the basic fact
that people SHOULD do their homework. In a perfect world, everyone WOULD. In a
perfect world, cellular carriers wouldn't have to ***** everything out. In the
real world, it would be helpful if carriers did do a better job of laying
    everything out for the customer.

Nope. There are multiple digital television standards in the US. DO your
research next time before you make silly statements.

How many non-analog TVs are sold in the US that aren't HDTV?

It's by no means clear that this will actually happen as originally mandated.

First of all, there are very few true "non-analog TVs" sold in the US. There
are monitors, and there are set-top boxes. A few "digital TVs" have built-in
analog receivers, but very few have HDTV built-in.

If you look at the ads, then you'll see a number of monitors listed as
"EDTV." I don't know the percentage of "EDTV" as compared with true "HDTV."

    Moreover, if you go to:

    http://broadband.motorola.com/consum...Data_Sheet.pdf

then you'll see that there are eighteen (18!) different input resolutions
supported by the Motorola HDTV Off Air Receiver, with four (4) different
output resolutions available. Not that that's just the receiver; there are
large numbers of different types of monitors (display type and resolution)
    available.
