Sorry to sound naive, but I bought a USB cable from Ebay that connects your
phone to your computer's USB port and allows you to use your phone as a
modem. Problem is, it doesn't work. I installed the software that came
with it, but it doesn't do anything.

I will say that the first time I tried it, the phone screen did say
something about "USB connected" but hasn't done it since. I've rebooted the
computer, turned off/on the phone, etc but each time I plug it in, nothing
    happens.

So, has anyone had success using their phone as a modem? If so, any hints
on things I should know? Thanks.

First the fine print. SPCS does not officially allow phones to act as modems
to connect to the web. Unofficially, if one keeps their usage to moderate
levels (IOW, don't try to use the service as your regular ISP) and use it on
an occasional basis, you shouldn't run into any problems.

Next, if you don't have one of the Vision options on your account, you will
be charged for any data usage, @ either $0.01 or $0.02 per KB. That expense
can add up in hurry, depending on how much is down or uploaded.

As for getting it to work, you didn't mention what phone model you have,
which software you are using etc. You need to get the phone drivers
    installed on your laptop.

You need to set up a new dial up on your laptop. Leave the user name and
password fields blank, and use #777 as your dial up number.
