Does Sprint offer a phone that has web browsing capabilities in Europe,
    eastern Europe, and Canada?

I currently have an (old) Sanyo 8100 picture phone. It has web browsing
capabilities but it's very tedious and slow to use. I'd like something with
a larger screen and faster. Perhaps some of the PDAs are a better choice.
However, I only need such a feature when I travel out of the US, which is
perhaps twice/year. I don't want to pay for 12 months of service for
something I may only use for 10-15 days out of the year. Any suggestions?

Maybe just using public Internet access is the solution.

    Thanks,
    Brett

Sprint uses CDMA technology, which is not commonly used off shore, although
it is used in some places. Many of the places you could go to are more
    likely GSM countries.

Your best bet for International service is going to be an unlocked tri or
quad band GSM phone with a browser function.

For use abroad, you'd simply pick up a prepaid SIM card on arrival in the
country visited. You pop the card in the back of the phone and you instantly
have a local phone, no long distance while in country, and depending on the
    service, browser access.

(If you don't know, a SIM Card is little plastic chip that goes in a GSM
phone, typically in a slot under the battery, that has all the subscriber
and service data coded on it. Switching carriers while keeping your phone is
a breeze, just swap out the SIM cards)

A good place to ask follow on questions on this is alt.cellular.gsm

For travel to Europe and Asia, I have a Motorola TimePort P7379. In the US
it works on 1900 GSM with cingular. In Asia it works on 900/1800 GSM and I
do get browser function. In Philippines I usually use either Smart or Globe
prepaid service, and have had email sent to me on the phone. The Timeport
is an old phone, does not have the latest color browsers we have on Sprint,
but it works. You can buy unlocked P7379s now cheap too. (Note: if you are
going to switch US and foreign carriers with a single GSM phone, the phone
has to be UNLOCKED or it won't work when the foreign SIM card is put in)

For travel to Jamaica and Central America, I have a ATT quad band GSM phone,
I keep my US number, and roam on Cable and Wireless while down there
