Interesting story on near capacity bookings for hotel rooms in Vegas for the
coming weekend.
http://tinyurl.com/5xbgy
Our observations support the premise of the story --- heck you wouldn't have
hit the floor of the IP last night if you fell over it was that crowded. I'd
say that there will be some very impressive Q4 P&L's forthcoming.

And this relates to Sprint PCS, how?
(And how is the near-capacity booking news? Or the prices, for that matter -
they were that high this summer when I went up to Vegas for my mother-in-law's
wedding. Whenever there's a big event that spikes demand, prices go up. Simple
economics.)

Well, and since you asked so nicely, the near complete lack of availability
is unique for this particular holiday --- as the story pointed out. Yes,
other events eat up rooms, but with the star and moon lining up just right
this New Years will be huge here. I can add that with my prior five years
here at this time of year that the town is humming unlike I've ever seen
it -- so it's not a PR effort by the LVVB

As of yesterday (Tuesday) there were ads on LA radio for Mandalay Bay
for New Years Eve.
That is a little unusual for them to have rooms for such a busy
holiday 3 days before, don't ya think? Aren't those sold out months in
advance in most cases?
Since Las Vegas got those Navigator computer systems I don't go there
near as much as I used to. They have successfully kept the room rates
at ridiculously high levels in the last few years. It's kept me away.

Ok, cool. I'm just pointing out that spikes like that don't seem to be unusual
in Vegas, in general.
**SJS (2 1/2 hours south of Vegas)

Avoid staying on the Strip and you'll find that prices are much more reasonable.

South? Wouldn't that mean Needles? I consider us to be 2 1/2 ours south
of Vegas, and I'm in Havasu.

OK, I don't think of it as southwest, but technically, Apple Valley is
*southwest* of Vegas. It's a straight shot down I-15 but I-15 curves and runs
southwest/northeast after coming north out of Barstow.
We do have a friend who is a psychologist with an office in Needles...
(And he lives out here. That's quite a commute.)

My wife wants to stay on the Strip.
I like downtown for gambling, personally.
I can't really afford to gamble on the strip.

Try the Ramada Speedway Casino in North Las Vegas. We stayed there for my
mother-in-law's wedding in June. Nice place.
I'd point you to the page on RickAndTJsWedding.com where I recommend them to
people coming to the wedding, but I don't have that site online right now.
