Hey all,
Just got the Samsung A740. Decent little phone (though the web seems
very slow to connect compared to my trusty A500).
So I added a few photos of friends for caller IDs and assigned them in
the phonebook.
They work I guess, but I can't figure out what good they are. If
someone with a photo calls, the picture doesn't appear on the external
display and it only flashes for a second when the phone is opened for
answering...so quickly that you could miss it.
Seems to me the color external display is begging to be used for photo
caller ID, and that while in the call, the photo should be on the main
display too for the duration of the call. And while we're at it, why
shouldn't a thumbnail of the photo be shown when viewing the phonebook
entry (without having to open the full image manually)?
Of course, I may be doing something wrong, but I think I've explored
the settings pretty thoroughly. Any help much appreciated. Or maybe
that's just the way it is.
thx

Re: Picture caller ID?
In "my pictures" and "in camera" select the picture you want to use for a
caller id., click "options" then "set as picture id" and select the phone
number in your address book then click on "sub LCD" (this is where you might
be setting it as the main LCD instead of the outer one) which should put it
in the small outside window. When the phone rings from that person his
picture and number will alternatly flash on the outside window.
Hope this helps.

Re: Picture caller ID?
Thanks for the reply Dale.
I tried your suggestion, but I don't see any place to click "sub LCD".
If I go to my photos, select a photo, assign it as picture ID, and
select the phone entry to assign it to, the phone merely says "set as
avatar". No other options.
