Alright... I'm tired of searching eBay for the right combination of price,
    features and performance.

I mentioned a while ago that I managed to break my then-six-month-old Samsung
VI-660. I don't want another one. The voice dial features rock, the UI is
great, but the reception often sucks big wet hairy donkey nads, and I routinely
drive through some areas on the edges of Sprint's local coverage where my
wife's Hitachi P-300 can hold calls but my VI-660 couldn't.

    What I'm looking for:

--Must be tri-mode. This is absolutely NOT negotiable.

--Should be a Vision-capable phone, although if you can make enough of a case
for me to buy your Nokia 3588, or even your Motorola v60, I'd consider it,
since both of those phones should have excellent RF circuitry

--Preferably should have Voice Digit Dialing. (any of the newer Samsungs, maybe
one or two models from other manufacturers)

--Absolutely needs to be able to hold calls in areas with poor signals. I won't
    bend on this either.

--"real music" (CMX) ringtones would be cool but are by no means a necessity.
The ability to download my own ringtones/apps/graphics via Vision is a big plus.

--Real SMS messaging capability is also a huge plus.

    Phones I've been considering:
--Samsung VGA-1000. I understand that this phone and the MM-740 have
consistently good RF performance, unlike some of the other Samsung handsets.
However, ain't no way I'm getting a 740 for the money I can afford to pay for a
    phone right now.

--Hitachi P-300. My wife loves hers, but I couldn't find any on eBay this
weekend. Looks like a slick little phone.

--Sanyo RL4920. I figure it's been on the market long enough that I can get a
    used one for relatively cheap.

--Samsung A500, but the reviews on Phonescoop differ widely as to how well the
    phone does with weak signals.

--Sanyo 8100. I have to see if my mother-in-law has hers lying around; maybe I
can buy it from her. (Her hubby bought her a Treo... must be nice!)

Insurance replacements cost $50, but they opened a claim for the LG 5350 I am
currently using on my account because my 660 is unusable. I most definitely do
NOT want another LG 5350. I am only using it because I was able to get it from
a family member who switched away from Sprint. The phone is a piece of crap.
And although I could have gotten a new 660 and had the full 12-month warranty
on it, and although I like an awful lot of things about the 660, the RF
performance is a deal-breaker, and I'm not willing to consider another 660 either.

    Reply via email please.

My VGA-1000 has been great for the past 17 months, except for the lack of true SMS.

It's a tri-mode, right? And how much money are you willing to take in return
    for yours?

On a more serious note, does the VGA-1000 have any firmware bugs? The 680 and
660 do. The 740 is supposed to be much better.

Yes, tri-mode. My 18 month upgrade clock is up next month, at that time I
will probably get the wife a Treo 650, and then eBay her VGA-1000. Not sure
    what they are going for.

    > On a more serious note, does the VGA-1000 have any firmware bugs?

Not that I'm aware of, but I don't use the more advanced functions
    like calendar and alarms.

    $100-$120 on eBay.

Email me. I would like to discuss buying your VGA-1000. The email address I use
to post is valid and unmunged.

I'll keep your offer in my suspense file. Depending on the state of my finances,
I may postpone the upgrade purchase.
